Chapter 17: Dead End
I looked around the corner and saw Mr. Red’s office. Here we go…can’t go back now…too late. No one was there to stop Bryan or I. I stood up straight and walked down the hall, it was hard to keep myself from letting my knees buckle and sit on the floor. I stood in front of the door and put my hand on the doorknob, I have to enter fast or he’ll close the door on me. I took a deep breath, then another, then another, then another. “Are you ok?” Bryan asked me. “Yeah.” I nodded confidently. I took one last deep breath and slowly turned the handle. I then swung it open, it hit the door so hard it almost swung and hit me back. Mr. Red looked up at me surprised. “Well hello there.” Mr. Red looked at me, nothing but his eyes held emotion. “This is the end of the line Red.” I growled. “I guess it is.” Mr. Red stood up. “I see you found the Hidden Blade I designed. Do you know it’s based off of an old design made by a brotherhood of assassins? I found it interesting and I just had to have it.” Mr. Red told me. “I’ll use it to stab you.” I stated. “That’s nice.” Mr. Red walked to the side of his desk.
He looked up at Bryan; he narrowed his eyes at him disappointedly. “Mister Swan…I expected more from you. Why would you join the enemy?” Mr. Red asked. “I don’t like what you’re doing! Sir…” Bryan said aggressively at first, and then slinked down to a scared mumbled. It made a smile appear on Mr. Red’s face. “I always knew you were afraid of me.” Mr. Red chuckled. Mr. Red threw a knife at Bryan; it hooked his shirt to the wall behind him. I took out my pistol and shot a few bullets in the drywall. Mr. Red dodged them unrealistically and sent a thousand mile per hour fist into my jaw, I flew across the room and hit the wall. “Foolish little girl. How about you meet me again when you’re all grown up?” Mr. Red mocked me. “I don’t think that’ll be an option.” I groaned trying to get up from such a blow to the skull. He laughed at me, “Oh really? Why?” I took out my katana and slashed his leg. He yelped and took a few steps back. “Little brat!” Mr. Red growled and kicked me to the side. I got up and took out my bat. I’ll just beat his head in. I swung my bat and hit him in the face. I did it again, and again, and again, and again. I had him on the ground and defenseless. Beaten and bloody, I’m going to end this. “You’re just too easy!” I laughed at him. My final swing, my final death. No longer will I kill someone for money. It’s the end, finally.
Well, I thought that until he caught my bat.
Crap.
He took my bat from my hand and jabbed me in the stomach with it. He hit me on the head and across the face, I stumbled backward and he threw my bat at me. I fell back onto Bryan, “Whoa, whoa, whoa.”Bryan finally got the dagger out of his shirt and threw it at Mr. Red. It got him in the back; it didn’t stop him from opening a hidden compartment in his office. It was an elevator; no one knew where it led. I got up a bit quicker than my health would ever let me, but I didn’t care. I needed this guy dead. I ran at the elevator, maybe I could make it, maybe I could finally end this. I was wrong. I hit the elevator like in an old cartoon. I fell to the floor and Bryan helped me up. I got my bat and katana, I then hit the button to get the cart up here. “I don’t think it’s going to work.”Bryan informed me. “It has to, how else would he get up?” I asked. “Maybe he has a secret door that lets him to the surface.” Bryan guessed. “Now that’s just absurd.” I stated. “Hey, it’s not a bad idea.” Bryan shrugged. “No it’s just absurd for Mr. Red. He would never think up such a thing on his own. Why do you think he had someone go out and kill people for him?” I asked. Bryan chuckled a bit, “Charming, Tara, charming.” I smiled at his comment. I’m not that charming, just a little.
Finally the cart got up and I stepped in, Bryan did behind me. “So…what’s the plan when we get down there?” Bryan asked. “Spray bullets. Everywhere.” I told him. “Magnificent.” He said plainly. “Do you not know how to stay away?” Mr. Red snarled over an intercom. “Do you not know how to keep someone out of your office Dumbledorf?” I crossed my arms. “Oh hardy har.” Mr. Red grumbled. “Well I hope you like elevators, because you’re not getting out of there.” Mr. Red growled and turned off the intercom. “Oh great. He should have put in stairs.” Bryan snarled to himself. “Well, we don’t need him to help us down, nor do we need stairs.” I smiled smartly. I started jumping up and down on the floor. “Are you insane?!” Bryan shouted. “I’ve already gone over this.” I landed and the cart shook again. Bryan watched me, and then started doing it himself. Eventually the bottom fell off.
