Chapter 16- In the Case
We pressed against a wall, I took a deep breath. This guy was strong, not only mentally but physically. I stood behind him many times when he was having lunch with other people like him, he showed off his biceps to them and they all high fived about it. I never got why strength was such an achievement to men, but I never took the time to ask. I would ask Duke, but he would tell me to never ask things like that ever again. I watched as a couple of guards laughed at me and how a few of them watched me inch my way around the outside of the building. I glared at them and suddenly a red haze covered one of their heads. The other one was confused, he took too long to try and figure out what was going on because he was shot to. I looked at Duke, he found ammo. “I love this rifle; it’s really good at its job.” Duke smiled. “I’m so happy for you two.” I mumbled.
“So whats the plan Bob?” Kris asked me. “Um…Who’s Bob?” I asked her. “You! I nicknamed you.” She said adorably. “Okay…This is how it’s going to happen. Kris, you go find where the slaves are and let them out, I’ll go get Red. And Duke, you just take out as many guards as you can.” I ordered. “Sounds good to me.” Duke checked his magazine. “Ey, ey captain!” Kris saluted me and ran down the hall like an idiot. “She’s really excited.” I stated. “Well its Kris, the insane clown that likes hugs.” Duke shot one of the guards that was walking down the hall. I guess everyone was doing their job but me, so I got up and ran down the hall, hopping over dead guards.
I walked into the meeting room, he wasn’t there. Although, I did find a brief case. I tried t open it but it had a combination. I didn’t want to spend a thousand years here trying to figure it out, so I took out my knife and unlocked it. I opened the case to see its Mr. Reds. It was full of documents that no one’s supposed to see. I shuffled through them, bills, registration papers, documents about his slaves. But I found something else, it was a picture. Not anything like from a camera but rather drawn. It looked like a five year old drew it, a person with a big head and a stick figure body with three big fingers and toes. There was a big one and a small one. They were both smiling and were bouncing off of grass and almost into a smiling orange sun. There were blue clouds and they were also smiling. It said: to Dabby FroM Allie I love you.
It was the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. He has a daughter, but where is she? I kept looking for more pictures and found another. It was from a camera, it was with Mr. Red and a blonde woman, she was wearing a wedding dress with a big white veil. Mr. Red wore a monkey suit; they were holding wine glasses with a couple of friends around a table. I supposed they were married and were at their wedding party. I kept looking, pictures of him and his wife and his daughter, but that was it. Not too many, only three. Is that it? I shuffled though the documents; I took them all out and that was it. Well, it would have been if I hadn’t found a small black ribbon that almost successfully hid itself from me. I pulled it up to find an army of pictures, memories. Birthdays, vacations, pictures with friends.
How could a man with such a happy life turn into such a monster?
I then heard footsteps; I took the drawing and folded it then put it in my pocket. I looked around, and then hid behind the door. The door opened a little, then all the way. A guard walked in and looked around, he saw the brief case was open and closed it looking around alert. He walked out and closed the door. I sighed; I didn’t realize that I was holding my breath. I opened the door, hoping it wouldn’t creak but it did. It creaked like an alarm system on super steroids.
I decided to make a run for it; I would be there all day trying not to make the door creak. I ran and tripped; I looked up and saw a man about to pounce on me. I rolled out of the way and flicked out my hidden blade; I stabbed him in the spine and ran for it. I tripped a bit again but regained my balance as I ran into a guard. We both fell over and slid a bit on the polished floor. I looked at myself in the floor, my eyes wide open and out of breath. I looked across the hall and saw a guard, he looked at me to. We sat there looking at each other for a while. “Um…hi.” I mumbled. Even if my voice was quiet it still echoed down the halls. “Hi.” The guard waved to me. He looked about my age, very shy. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, of course he was German. We both sat there awkwardly, not saying anything, just staring at each other.
