Chapter 6: Date Night.
Benji.
"Im just going to confront him about it." I told Travis via Facetime as I shaved my left leg inside of my bathroom. A few days ago at Holden Porter Town Hall party I caught my father doing some sneaky shit and the only person I trust to help me is Travis.
"Not to be rude or anything, but arent we team your Dad. You know I hate my Dad being Mayor." Travis told me and I stared over at the phone.
"That isnt the point: Your Dad is a powerful man. My Dad barely escaped with his freedom let alone his invention the last time he went against your Dad. He just doesnt get it." I told Travis as I stood up. I pulled my shorts down and grabbed my phone. I hung up as I headd chatter in the hallway.
"GINA, turn off music."
The music stopped in my room and I walked out and it must have been kismet becaude my father was standing right before me in a suit. He was undoing his suit.
"I brought some leftover Meatballs from Oli—Whats wrong?" He asked. He knew me all to well. He knew I couldnt never get away with something. Try being a Freshman trying to sneak down to the lake with Kori. Never could happen when she moved here. He knew my moves, so I stopped asking and just snuck out.
"Uhh we need to talk Dad..." I bit my lip and exhaled, "I kind of seen or shall I say heard your conversation at Town Hall with Mister Asad."
"Who?" He asked. Oh was he good. His lip didnt twitch or his left eye didnt wander, like it always do when he lie. I chuckled, "Dad just stop. I dont wanna know what happened to lead you here, but you both won. He got Napa and you walked away with GINA. Yall are even. I just dont want anything to happen to you."
"Benji, stop worrying about me and enjoy your summer. Speaking of enjoying your summer—." He pulled out two tickets and handed it to me.
"A weekend cruise to Mexico. Take who ever. It leaves Napa docks next weekend." He told me smiling. Oh he is good. I grabbed them and he walked off towards his room. I called out to him and he turned to me.
"Be careful, Dad." I told him seriously. He wasnt going to budge, but I needed him to know that he got alot to lose if this plan thats unknown to me goes bad. He walked into his room and I stared at the cruise tickets. We just have to go online and put in the information of the person I am taking. Kori really needs this and with Travis out of the picture—-its a done deal.
"I cant. As much as I would want to. I cant. With your brother basically working every damn day. He need his weekends and I cant leave him Alexa alone." Kori told me as she walked around Alexa room like a chicken with her head cut off. She grabbed the hamper basket and we tipped-toed out. Alexa was down for her nap. We went into the pantry and I argued, "He can go with his grandparent."
"No. My mom is already watching him nights while I am at the studio working on this song and Dandy at work." She told me. She threw Alexa clothes in the washer and I confessed, "I was thinking more Holden and My Mom." She looked at me and she laughed, "Oh you seriously want this cruise to happen, huh? What happened to Holden being the devil."
"He is, but my mom isnt. Plus, its a weekend and I need it." I told her and she licked her lips.
"Listen, I can see you desperately need it. I dont bring it up, because you dont tell me anything dealing with you and Travis, but something happened, huh?" She askes and my heart dropped. I hate that I cant talk to her about it because well Travis isnt out and isnt my place. She hugged me and I wrapped my arms around her tightly.
"I know our lives have flipped upside down in these pass few months from a boyfriend dying, a baby, dead dads and all—but I honestly think if WE need this. I will only go if you come to the studio for the final recording of this song and when the record label people come. Im so scared." She told me and I yelled, "YASSSS!" She slapped my ass and said, "Shush, before that demon baby wake tf up."
