Jellal's P.O.V
After our political negotiations, the Queen and I got more familiar with one another. Then, after Meredy and Ultear's return, she decided to show us to our quarters. It was on the second floor, on the other side of the castle away from the entrance. According to Queen Erza, the castle consisted of at least two hundred bedrooms alone. This excluding the diner, throne room, infirmary, kitchen, library, the Queen's office and bedroom. All of which were quite large rooms.
I was left standing by the door of my room. It seemed to be a lot more suited for nobility, considering Meredy's and Ultear's rooms only had a single door leading inside. I took a breath as I opened the double doors leading inside.
It appeared my judgement was correct. It was more customized for nobility. It seemed to be one of five customized rooms in this hallway. I looked around the room. It's walls were decked in a crimson medieval wallpaper. There was a canopy bed located in the center with sheets to match the walls and white pillows. Two giant windows were located on either side of the bed. In the back left corner was a bathroom on in the right wall was a closet.
I sighed, and walked in to go sit on the. The room smelt fresh. Like flowers. Instinctively I began to look around and saw some violets on the bedside tables. I smiled, thinking of how odd Erza was. She was quite unlike any other Queen that I've met— her looks aside.
It was clear as day how hard working she was and how much she cared for the staff around her castle. She didn't order them around and she didn't abuse them. She was kind but not naively so. As I sat down on my bed, there was knock at my door.
"Come in." I was a little dumbfounded and taken aback when a stuttering maid walked in.
She stood there, small and nervous. "I-I apologize for the intrusion, b-but Queen Erza wanted me to relay a message. S-some of her friends will be coming in for dinner. The event isn't a formal one, but she still wishes for you to wear suitable attire for the dinner." The maid was silent before beginning to tremble over her words even more. "O-Of course, I-I. . . can always get you some if you don't n-necessarily have anything, Majesty!"
I chuckled at her nervousness. "No need to concern yourself, I have brought some suitable clothes along with. Although that stutter of yours makes me wonder how much the Queen is pressuring you."
She seemed shocked at first before gaining a steady composure and looking over at me with stern eyes. "I'm sorry if this is not my place to speak, but I shan't tolerate any disrespect toward my Queen. Unless you know Queen Erza very well, then I'd suggest you remain silent and not make any assumptions that you can't prove. I'm not good with people, but Queen Erza is still willing to put her faith in me. So, I'd rather you not try to dirty her name."
Needless to say, I was surprised. The shy that was stuttering just a couple of seconds ago seemed like a dream. I supposed it was wrong of me to have such little faith. Especially in someone whom I'd hoped to work alongside with. "Right. My apologies. Although, if you don't mind my asking, I'd like to know your name."
"My name is Aries. I'm the one who serves this room if indeed there are guests. Please excuse me, but I have further business to attend to. Good day, Your Majesty." She bowed and left my room.
I was surprised. Normally a servant wouldn't even dare to stand up to a noble. Although this girl had quite the confidence in herself to do so. Not that I minded. She had every right to stand up for her Queen. The way her mood shifted just caught me off guard. I suppose that was what she meant when she mentioned not being very good with people.
"It's quite clear that the people here hold Erza in high regard. I ought to watch what I say next time," I muttered to myself as I fell back on the bed. It was around two in the afternoon I assumed. If I was to look fitting for a royal dinner then I supposed I had to start getting ready sometime soon.
