Out of My League - Fitz and The Tantrum

Eva had become dizzy over the thought of having a new friend. She felt like a preteen, coming up with wild daydreams about all the things Nicole and her could get up to; picnics in the park, shopping trips, Eva had even looked up what festivals were coming up. Despite dreaming quite big, she had decided that the first step was to integrate Nicole into Eva and Nathan's duo to become a trio. Eva had proposed a movie sleepover at Nathan's on a Friday night, and somehow Nicole's schedule was free then. Eva got so excited she even made a group chat; she wisely named it "The Holy Trinity".

Nathan had freaked out when he found out Nicole was going to be staying the night at his flat. He had hoovered every day after he got back from work for a week straight to ensure that the place was spotless; he didn't want Nicole thinking he was a slob. Nathan had planned the whole night out in his head; he had told his roommate to be out of the flat, had the number for a really good Japanese takeout place ready and had prepared a list of movie suggestions.

Nicole was in awe of the place. She hadn't realised how wealthy Nathan was; sure he dressed well, but he never showed off fancy watches or a foreign car like most Londoners did. However she could see clearly from the prestige apartment complex that Nathan had money. Nicole had been proud of her modern interior design, but she felt her design was mediocre as she took in Nathan's monotone colour scheme. She liked it, she really did.

'Your rent must be off the scale,' she commented, turning to face the boy. He had the same sweatpants he had on the night he had tried to scare her, but this time he had a white t-shirt on too. Nicole gave one last gaze at the place; that's when her eyes locked on a doorframe that led to a red staircase fixed to the outside of the building. 'As if you've got rooftop access!'

Surely enough, Nicole was right. Nathan was on the top floor and had full access to a giant private flat rooftop. The girl was in disbelief; she looked out at the city completely taken aback by the view of the lights.

The night was very warm compared to England's average summer temperature. Nathan had laid out two mattresses and a couple blankets just in front of one of the large walls that was containing the water tank. A projector had been placed just in front of the makeshift bed, where Nathan was to play the movies from.

Nicole was very impressed.

The atmosphere was relaxed; the movie of choice was Kingsman, which both Nicole and Nathan agreed was one of the greatest action movies ever created. Nathan had cracked open a couple beers, Eva had gone a little too overboard with them. She was out of it within the first hour of the movie.

'He doesn't love me anymore,' Eva continued to ramble about her boyfriend, continuously taking swigs from a half empty beer bottle. 'He hasn't touched me in weeks, and that says a lot since we're talking about Zack.'

Nicole and Nathan both flashed each other a look of concern. The two had initially been sat next to each other, but Nicole had moved to the other side of Eva so she wouldn't fall off the mattress. She had come close a couple times.

'Have I gained or something? I have been eating like shit since exams finished.'

'You're making excuses.' Nicole repeated what she had told the girl many times.

Eva stared at the girl, a look of envy clear on her drunken face. 'That's easy for you to say, you don't have to deal with these things. You're hot, hard to get and emotionally stable all at the same fucking time. You're Kim, I'm Kanye!'

Nicole rolled her eyes; Eva wasn't even making sense anymore. 'I think it's time to put her to bed.' Nicole suggested to Nathan. The pair both took an arm each and somehow got her down the stairs without major incident. Nathan had decided to put Eva to sleep in his bed, so the pair got to work tucking her in. Nathan placed a puke bucket beside the bed, knowing Eva was bound to throw up. She had never been able to stomach alcohol properly.

Nicole stole quick glances around Nathan's bedroom. He had black furniture, including his black bed frame, with white accents placed around the room. Nicole found herself staring at the framed photos dotted around the walls in clusters; they all seemed to capture moments of happiness in Nathan's life. Nicole found herself wondering who the people in the frames were.

Nathan and Nicole ended up going back to the rooftop, but ditching the movie as they agreed that they would have to make Eva watch it properly some other time. Instead Nathan popped on his recents playlist and the two lay besides each other on one of the mattresses under a blanket, staring up at the sky as they chatted.

'Zackary is an absolute piece of shit,' Nathan had been telling Nicole of Eva and Zack's backstory. 'He knew Eva was easily manipulated, so he lured her in with the little charm he had and has kept her wrapped around his finger since.'

'She needs to get a grip.' Nathan tilted his head to the right to see Nicole's face; she was staring directly up at the sky. 'She clearly knows he's a dickhead, so she just needs to up and go.'

'That's a blunt way to put it.'

'She's still in that relationship because she wants to be. Nothing's going to happen until she decides that she wants to leave.'

'You don't know that.'

'I do.' Nathan knew from the stubborn tone in her voice that she was speaking from experience. He didn't think twice before extending his arm over Nicole's head, pulling her body into his side. 'You're getting brave.' She decided to rest her arm on his chest and watched Nathan as he smiled sadly at the stars.

'Don't worry, I know you're way out of my league.'

Nicole took her hand to his jaw, turning his head to face her. The sad look on his face dropped to a neutral as she stared at him.

'If I was out of your league, I would've left you back with Beck that night.'

Nathan's chest was pounding; he knew exactly what she was saying, but he couldn't quite believe it. He felt like he was in a cruel dream; Nicole couldn't be interested in him, could she?

He decided he had nothing to lose.

Nathan rotated his body, placing his left hand around the back of Nicole's head, his fingers resting in her hair. She watched his gaze lower as he leaned in, responding to his actions intently. Their lips met, the kiss slow and tender, heartbeats and mellow music echoing in their airs. The uncertainty that had lived in Nathan's chest for weeks began breaking apart and disintegrating as Nicole's hands cupped his face, pulling the boy closer. Desire begun to eat away at Nathan; his body began to turn and soon he was on top, a dominant side emerging from within him. He took one of Nicoles hands and forced it against the mattress. Nicole was losing herself; she found her legs wrapped around Nathan's hips, her head fuzzy and her lungs breathless.

Nathan could feel Nicole start to laugh against his lips. He slowed before pulling back, that was when Nicole erupted into a fit of giggling.

'Why the fuck are you laughing?' Nathan had started to laugh too. He was hovering, his hands placed either side of Nicole, wondering what had happened.

'I'm sorry, this is such a boner killer,' she was trying her very best to suppress her laughter. 'Don't be offended, but I take my health very seriously. I need you to get tested before I let you dick me down.'

It was Nathan's turn to snort; he turned his head to the side before letting out a loud chortle.

'You're so dreamy,' he joked, gazing over her once he calmed. 'Let me take you out sometime.'

'Give me a time and a place and I'll be there.'

Nathan leaned down to steal another kiss before settling in his previous position beside her. Nicole snuggled into his side once again, this time placing a leg across his body. Under the starry sky the pair lay, sneaking kisses every few moments, giggling like school children.
