I was there when it happened. I was one of them waiting for it to happen. I was with someone when it happened. It all happened so fast. The riots, the gun shots, the awakening. I wasn't really there when it happened, but I was close enough to get a taste. No, I was not there, I was in cyber life, helping an android I had met that night, but felt as close as home as ever. I had no real home until I met them. Markus, North, Hank.
Connor.
There was something about him, about Connor, that I had never seen in anyone. The way he had every move planned before you could even say the words "are you sure?", the way he had such an empty look as he stared at the crowds of people during Markus' speech, the way that single strand of hair stayed down every time he moved. Something about him was different than any other android, wether that was for good or bad.
After androids got freedom and rights, I didn't know what to do. I was ecstatic but lost at the same time. I didn't have a house to stay in, I was a run away android. After all the commotion at cyber life, I felt like I could trust Hank. He offered to take me in, as well as Connor. Connor was lost as well, I could see it in his eyes.
"Two androids staying in my house, I never thought i'd see the day." Hank said, unenthusiastically as we entered through the door.
"Gee Hank, you could be a little more happy." I laughed, setting my coat on the coat rack.
Hank laughed a little and replied, "Yeah, don't get me wrong," he turned towards me. "I'm glad I took you guys in." He smiled once more, the most I've seen since we've moved in.
"Connor?" I yelled, hoping he would answer. It's been at least a month since androids have gotten rights. Tonight Hank went out to drink so he could celebrate, seen as he had been caught up in work, so much as to he couldn't grab a drink until Friday night. I decided to go with Hank just incase he got too drunk, but luckily, he didn't. Connor offered to stay home with Sumo.
"In here." I heard from the spare room that Hank let us stay in. I left to the room, noting how Hank was now playing with Sumo and Connor was not with Sumo. Entering the room, I see Connor sitting on his bed, contemplating.
"Are you.. Alright?" I questioned, setting down the rest of my stuff on my bed and seating next to him on his bed.
"Y/n, do you mind if I tell you something?" He asked turning towards me to see my reaction.
"Yeah, no, I don't mind. Go ahead, I'm all ears!" I smiled, over exaggerating my words, seen as this is his first time opening up to me.
"Y/n, I was designed to find deviants. There was a woman who helped me, named Amanda. She was very strict about finding deviants. When my system 'failed'," he said using air quotations. "She nearly took control over me again. It was terrifying." He looked down at his knees, sadness tugging at the front of his eyebrows.
"I am sorry to hear that Connor," His head lifted as he looked into my eyes. He looked like a lost puppy. "Is the anything I can.. Do..?" I hesitated.
"Y/n, that night that we gained freedom, the night that I was almost taken control of, they pulled out my gun, Amanda did." He inched closer to me, possibly for me to understand better as his words softened. "They almost killed Markus. Imagine what would have happened after that.." His head dropped once more.
"Connor, it's not your fault, and even if you think it was, it still never happened. Connor, we're free now. You don't have to feel that you are responsible for what they almost did." I put my hand on his knee to grab his attention. His head slowly rises once more. "Connor," I started, but then was cut off by Hank.
"Do you two," He started, but then stopped when he saw how close we were. "Was I, was I interrupting something?"
I was confused. What did he? "Oh no, not at all!" I laughed and scooted away from Connor, though his presences was nice.
"Oh, well, I was wondering if you two wanted to go out tomorrow. I heard there's a fair going on?" He asked, leaning against the door.
"Of course, I think that would be nice," I said, waiting for Connor to respond, nudging him a little to get him out of his thoughts.
"Uh, yeah, that would be fun.." Connor said, clearly out of it.
"Right.." Hank walked away, knowing that Connor wasn't all himself.
"Connor, I think this would be best, that way you can get out of your head. Just try to think about it." I scooted closer to him once more. "Would you do it for me?" I questioned, looking him straight in the eye.
"..Sure." He put a weak smile on his face in hopes of cheering me up. I smiled at his sad excuse of one.
"You should get some sleep." I said, getting up and relocating my self to my bed. Getting clothes out of my nightstand, I headed to the bathroom to changed into pajamas and came back to the room. I turned out my soft light on my nightstand and attempted to sleep. When I couldn't sleep, I opened my eyes to see Connor sitting there staring at his feet. I think he saw me staring, because he soon averted eyes to me.
"I can't sleep." He stated, moving to the end of my bed.
"Yeah, me neither." I said, sitting up. There was a long silence of thinking.
"What are you think about?" He asked. "If you want to clear your mind, I'm right here." He said, moving beside me.
"No, I'm fine, what about you, are you letting it go?" I asked turning towards him.
"Not really, but I'm trying at least." He chuckled. I smiled and laid back again. "Y/n?" I looked at him once more. "You haven't really talked about your passed, is there a reason you came to Jericho?" I sighed.
"That's a story for another time.." I said, rolling on my side facing him as my eyes slowly closed.
The last thing I hear before I fall to sleep is a soft sigh and, "Goodnight Y/n."

I hope you enjoyed my redo! This is how the story begins, I know, crappy, you don't have to mention it! But I saw how many people like the 'first' chapter and was like "holy crap I made this just for fun but turns out people actually like it ahh" and decided to make it better so yeah! Next chapter will be post soon I hope? Also sorry that this started out so sad, I only thought that it was right seen as how sad Connor looked so sad the end of Detroit.
