Loneliness

24 4 4

I have built walls to keep people out,
And I have built them up so high,
Brick upon brick, with barb wire on top,
It's nearly reaching the sky.

While I made them to keep people out,
They also keep me hidden within,
Only catching glimpses of the world
Through the windows I put in.

I long to join the rest of the world,
But it's safer inside my walls,
Because while I'm alone in here,
I can't be hurt by anyone at all.

People may surround my windows,
To catch glimpses of who I am,
But will never see the whole picture,
Or be able to truly understand.

I do talk to them sometimes,
When they surround my windows,
And I don't know how or why,
But I still manage to feel alone.

Maybe the wall doesn't protect me,
Like I originally thought,
But instead keeps me isolated,
Within the loneliness they've wrought.
