Jungkook looked in the mirror trying to figure out how to hide the hickeys that were covering the entire right side of his neck and shoulder. One bruise stood out to him in particular, with deep shades of purple and yellow at the base of his neck where Taehyung bit him the night before. Taehyung's actions were so sudden and unexpected that Jungkook was frozen, unable to react. He recalled the events over and over again, each time his heart beating faster. What was the meaning of all of that? Was Taehyung dreaming of someone? Was he aware of what he did to Jungkook? Did he remember? All these questions were heavy on his shoulders, the headache becoming unbearable.
Jungkook settled for a turtle-neck as he didn't have any make up, but was still working on a plan for the concert. The young idol clutched his stomach and bent over the toilet, trying his hardest to stay composed. Hi instincts were craving for Taehyung to touch him more, but his mind knew that it wasn't right. Taehyung was his best friend, his brother figure, the need for him in a romantic and sexual way was making him sick. How dare he think of Taehyung that way when he was clearly dreaming, his actions innocent. He was disgusted with himself and he was not ready to face his best friend, but he had to. They had a concert to do. Their fans always come first.
At breakfast everyone seemed to be more silent than usual. Jungkook couldn't tell wether his hyungs could sense the tension or if they were just nervous for the show.
"Guys, You won't believe what I dreamed of last night.", Taehyung's deep enthusiastic voice was like a trigger for Jungkook's entire body to tense up. He unconsciously touched the side of his neck that was covered by the thin black fabric. Namjoon gave the younger a questioning look, but to his relief the leader decided not to comment on it.
"Uuu, what did you dream?", Jhope wiggled his eyebrows playfully.
"I dreamed my soulmate", Taehyung smiled proudly. Jungkook's heart sank.
"Oooh, what did she look like?", Jhope exaggerated his enthusiasm.
"I don't know, I could only see a little of her back, but she smelled so sweet and warm.", Tae smiled looking at the ceiling and recalling the dream.
She. That was it. Jungkook's heart fell so hard it shattered into a million pieces. He stood up and darted to the bathroom without a word. His voice would've cracked anyway. The boys looked after the running maknae confused. Taehyung and Jimin both got up in attempt to go and see what was wrong with their Kookie, but Namjoon stopped them.
"Don't. He's probably stressed about the concert. Let him be", but Namjoon knew that wasn't the truth. He would confront Jungkook about it later.
"Come on, guys! 10 minutes!", one of the managers announced the remaining time until the start of the concert. The staff started running around, fixing the last touches. Jungkook snatched some foundation from a make up bag and ran to the bathroom to change. He rubbed the skin colored product on his marks, hoping that nothing would show. Once it looked decent, he changed into his stage costume and went to get his mic. Taehyung has been eyeing the maknae ever since the breakfast incident. It was obvious he was avoiding everyone, especially him. Did he wrong Jungkook in any way? Did he say something he shouldn't have? Taehyung felt guilty and couldn't comprehend the reason behind it.
Their performance that night was one of the weakest. Jungkook kept spacing out. He didn't dance nor sing as powerful as he usually does. Taehyung kept tripping and forgetting his lines, his eyes constantly following Jungkook. They were so out of it that even the other members kept stumbling on their feet.
While getting scolded by the manager, everyone had one question in their mind: "What happened?" When Namjoon noticed Jungkook's expression he was quick to figure out he had the answer.
Everyone was down, confused, disappointed in themselves. "Come on, guys! We can't let one failed show get to us. If anything we should be more determined to work harder for our future concerts. We're humans too, we can't be perfect all the time no matter how much we want it.", Namjoon took the leader role in his hands and lightened the mood with his pep-talk. The members agreed, trying to smile through the disappointment and distract themselves with other conversation subjects. Everyone but Jungkook. Namjoon saw this as an opportunity to take the young boy in a more isolated room.
"What happened, Jungkook? The truth.", Namjoon cut straight to the point.
"Nothing", Jungkook gave an unconvincing smile.
"If you keep it all in it will only get worse."
"Namjoon hyung, do you think we could switch roommates?", Jungkook avoided his questions.
"So it's about Taehyung. I figured." Jungkook gulped. He did not want anyone to know. He was ashamed of himself, of his feelings. "Did he do or say anything?"
"No", the tears were threatening to spill.
"Don't lie to me Jungkook. You have to talk it out with him. We're a family, we help each other.", Namjoon pulled the younger in a hug and that's when he broke down in tears, causing Namjoon to tighten the hug in a comforting attempt.
"I can't, hyung. You would all hate me if you knew.", he sobbed.
"Jungkook, whatever it is we could never hate you", Namjoon patted his soft brown hair while the boy was clutching the fabric of his clothes. Jungkook just shook his head, unable to speak as the tears were drowning his voice. "Go and rest in my room. Call me if you need anything"
"Hyung", Jungkook choked out before leaving the room.
"Yes?"
"Do you have any turtle-neck shirts I could borrow?" Namjoon was caught off guard with the random question, but knew better than to question him now.
"Of course", his dimple reassuring the younger that it was okay.
Weeks passed and Jungkook was still avoiding Taehyung. Everyone noticed by now, but Namjoon convinced them not to bring it up unless Jungkook wanted to talk about it. The matters should be settled between the two without anyone butting in. Taehyung's mood was low at all times. He was no longer the bubbly and childish boy his members knew. His best friend was completely ignoring him and no one wanted to tell him why. Taehyung tried talking to Jungkook many times, but the only response he ever got was "I'm fine" or "I'm too busy right now". He wished someone would just tell him what he did wrong. He wished Jungkook would just yell at him, hug it out and then go back to being best friends. He missed playing with him. He missed hugging him. He missed sleeping cuddled next to him.
His heart ached of loneliness.
