In a modern world where something as important as your life partner isn't your choice, people drifted away from the soulmate myth, ignoring the ancient legend of a ringing bell upon meeting the love of your life. Although we're living in a generally modernized society, every nation has it's particularities. As for Korea, being part of the Asian culture means staying true to your traditions.
Jeon Jungkook has been a trainee at Bighit for a long time. Even though he's at the young age of 15, he's going to debut soon as part of a kpop group, BTS. Usually shy, no one thought he could make it as an idol in the harsh kpop industry. But his hard work has finally paid off because right now he was getting ready to meet the 6 boys he will be living with. Naturally, he was nervous. There were so many things to be anxious about, but he tried to push those thoughts away, repeating to himself "It's gonna be okay" over and over again.
The moment he entered the room filled with chattering he realized he must be the youngest one. That just made his heart sink even more. The chattering stopped abruptly as everyone's attention drifted to the small form standing in the doorway.
"Boys, this is the 7th and youngest member of BTS, Jeon Jungkook. Take good care of him.", the manager introduced the terrified looking Jungkook to his fellow members and nudged his side, signaling him to start socializing.
"Hi", Jungkook waved shyly and the next moment he was surrounded by 6 good looking boys.
"I'm Namjoon, stage name" Rap Monster. Welcome to the team, buddy.", the tallest guy shook his hand and patted his shoulder.
"Hello, I'm Jin.", a wide shouldered dude introduced himself next. One by one all the boys said their names until Jungkook got to the last one.
"Hey! I'm Taehyung, but you can call me V!", he presented Jungkook with a boxy smile, who replied with a shy smile that soon faded. His eyes god wide in realization he couldn't hear his hyungs talking enthusiastically in the back round. All he could hear was a bell ringing somewhere in the distance while he stared at Taehyung, who looked just as shocked and lost. He doesn't know how much time has passed, but moving his gaze from Taehyung's puppy dog eyes seemed impossible, the presence of other 5 boys in the room long forgotten.
"Hello? Earth to Jungkook! V?!", the sound suddenly came back snapping Jungkook out of his trance. It was as if someone just disabled the mute button. The two finally broke eye contact and turned their attention to the other members who looked worried and confused.
"What happened?", Jin's voice was full of concern. Jungkook opened his mouth, but no words came out. He didn't know either.
"We just had a staring contest. Jungkook is really good at it.", Taehyung laughed. Relief washed all over their faces, only Jungkook looked more confused. Staring contest? Is that what he was doing? Did he not hear the bell like Jungkook? All this questions clouded his mind causing him to space out again, but his loud hyungs pulled him back to reality with questions destined to get to know him.
The day went smoothly after that. The boys got familiar with each other, practiced together and visited the dorm where they'll move in together next week. Jungkook replayed that day's events while wrapping himself like a burrito in the sheets. Was he really the only one that heard the bell? What did that mean? A faint memory of a legend about a ringing bell was the last thing that passed through his mind as he drifted into unconsciousness.
I'm going to try and write not-so-long chapters because school. I already have the whole plot planned, but I would love to hear your suggestions on how to improve my writing so don't be shy about commenting. Also, I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes, I promise I will edit them (sooner or later).
