A long time ago, snow used to fall every day. Everything was so different. Different people with different habits and lifestyle. People still used to live in clans back then and were absolutely prohibited to leave the camp because of all the wild animals lurking in the shadows. The only ones who left camp ever so often, were the men. The men were the strongest. The men were the hunters.

One day a girl named Yu left camp, going against every rule her clan had. She was sick and tired of staying put and being bossed around by the great heroes of the clan. So she just packed her stuff and left. How hard could it be to survive without anyone else, right? Men could do it.

Everything was going according to plan, until the storm came. Snow started falling so fast it was hard to see through the thousands of snowflakes that where dropping faster by the second.

Yu couldn't keep going on like this and looked for a place that could shelter her for the time being.

When the snow came to about her ankles, Yu finally found a cave. It was dark and creepy, but still better than the blizzard outside. The cave had a suffocating smell of dead animals, which scared her at first because that meant animals could be living here, like a bear or a pack of wolves. Luckily, the cave was small and didn't show any signs of an animal living here, other than the dead animals.

However when she did another careful look around, she saw a pile of fur on the other side of the cave. It was hard to see in the dark, but when she came closer she saw what it was; a wolf cub. At first she thought it was dead, but no, she could see the careful, steady breaths the cub took. What she also saw, was the bleeding wound in the side of the cubs body.

"Leave it.", she thought to herself, "Leave it to die, you'll be doing everyone a favour." But she couldn't. She felt sorry for the cub, being left alone to die a slow but surely painful dead. Instead she ripped a piece of her warm clothing and wrapped it around the wound, bandaging it tight hoping it would stop the bleeding. The cub didn't move, even though it must have hurt like crap. After a couple of minutes, she was finally done. The cub still wasn't moving, a sign of how far out this little guy was.

Yu moved back to her side of the cave. She kept monitoring the cubs every single breath, until she finally to drifted off to sleep.

Little rays of sun shone through the cave. The blizzard had finally stopped and the sun was trying its best to melt the big piles of snow on the ground.

The sun, however, wasn't the thing that had woken up Yu. It was the little wolf cub, licking her face.

She had gotten up so fast, the cub had fallen on the ground with a loud yelp. Suddenly she remembered the wound and immediately felt sorry... again.

The piece of clothing was still rapped around the cub's body in a messy way. It was covered in dried up blood, meaning it had successfully stopped the bleeding as she'd hoped.

The cub made a last little noise of pain before it stood back up. He turned his head to Yu and watched her with his big grey-blue eyes. After a while his tail started wagging and he made a barking sound.

Yu didn't know what to make of it, everything in her said to run and find a safer place far away from this predator. But her hand had a mind of its own. Before she knew it her hand had found its way to the cub's head. His fur was soft and delightful to run through with her fingers. The cub didn't seem to mind at all as it started to bark and its tail started wagging even more rapidly.

Yu couldn't stop the smile forming on her lips.

Yu and the cub, that was now a full-grown wolf, hadn't been separated in months. Yu had made a living for both of them in the cave. It seemed the spot wasn't that bad after all.

When it became warmer and the snow finally melted, Yu and the wolf went out into the wild to hunt together. They made a great team.

That was until tragedy hit; her sweet, loyal wolf got sick. She didn't know what it was and what to do to help her wolf.

One night her wolf was howling with pain. She looked at him and he looked at her, and she knew what she had to do.

With tears in her eyes, she took hold of a dagger, and with a last goodbye, slit her wolf's throat.

Seeing the light go out her wolf's eyes, was like losing a piece of herself. Tears were now streaming down her cheeks and falling on the fur of her now dead wolf.

She kept crying. For days she couldn't do anything except cry.

One day, she woke up to the sound of birds chirping and she knew this day was already destined to be doomed. With all the will she had left inside of her, she got up and greeted the sun outside with a grumpy sound.

It seemed, now that her friend was gone, she just couldn't enjoy the things she used to before.

Yu walked to a little river close by the cave. For the first time in forever, she decided to wash her face. When she got to the river, she bent herself forward and looked at her reflection in the water.

She was shocked with what she saw, not because of the messy hair and dark circles under her eyes, no, because of the now grey-blue eyes staring back at her. The same eyes her wolf had.

She blinked a couple of times to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but no, her eye colour stayed the same.

Soon she started to realise why her eyes had changed colour;

The spirit of her wolf was inside of her, mixed with her own human spirit.

She knew it sounded crazy, but it was the honest truth. She felt the spirit growing stronger and stronger every day, until one day the power was so overwhelming a change happened, literally.

Yu changed from a human to a wolf. A grey wolf, an exact copy of her wolf.

She felt so happy in that moment, she could've died of happiness.

After a while, she learned to control her newfound talent and decided it was time to pay her old clan a visit, but this time changes would be made. This time no more hiding from the wild. This time she would be the leader. The Alpha.
