I sat in the chair beside his bed, nervously tapping my foot. Yoongi's six housemates also stood beside him in silence.
The occasional beeps of the machine monitoring his vitals made me jumpy. Each time a beep sounded, I looked at the screen to make sure everything was okay.
The sound of a door opening made me look up to see a doctor with a nurse following closely behind her. She strode over to us, her clipboard tucked under her arm. We all looked nervously at her, apprehensive about the news she was about to give us.
"Thanks to your quick response," she looked at me as she spoke, "it looks like he's going to survive. He will wake up, and from the brain scans that we have analyzed, there appears to be no major damage." We all breathed a sigh of relief. The previous few hours had been filled with worry and fear. A tear of happiness slid down my cheek as the doctor gave me a small smile. The doctor left the room, but the nurse stayed behind to record data from Yoongi's vitals.
"Thank you," Jimin said, breaking the peaceful silence.
"For what?" I said, though I had a vague idea of what he was talking about.
"For saving him. I don't know what we'd do without him," Jimin answered. I exchanged smiles with him.
"Group hug?" Hoseok said. I stood up to join in as we all put our arms around each other, relieved beyond words.
"I don't have classes for another two days since it's the weekend," I said. "I have an essay to work on too, so I can stay with him and work on my assignments until he wakes up."
"That's so kind," Namjoon said. "We have a meeting with our PD in thirty minutes, but after that, we can all rotate staying with him until he wakes up, if necessary."
"Yeah, we should probably go. But we'll be back right after the meeting," Taehyung reassured me.
"Take your time, you guys. I don't mind staying with him," I told them as I looked over at Yoongi's sleeping face. The glow from the hospital window illuminated his features perfectly.
"We'll be back in about three hours," Hoseok said, glancing at his watch. I could tell that all the members were on edge; they didn't want to leave their friend. I exchanged goodbyes with the six boys as they left the room.
The door shut quietly behind them, leaving me alone in the peaceful quiet. The occasional beep from the monitor and Yoongi's slow, deeps breaths were the only sounds around me. As I looked as his face once more, I began to reflect on all of my moments with him. I felt oddly close to him though we had only known each other for about two weeks. I thought back to the first time I'd ever met him: when he seemed like some rude stranger that I could never relate to. But now, he meant more to me. Something stirred in my chest as I sat in silence, but I couldn't quite identify what the feeling was exactly.
Before I could understand what I was doing, I placed my hand gently on his and whispered, "I miss you. Please come back soon."
---
My eyes fluttered open as the door handle clicked. I had fallen asleep holding Yoongi's still hand. Quickly, I jerked mine off of his. before anyone can see.
"Jihee?" a voice said. I recognized it as Jungkook's.
"We're back," Jimin piped. The six boys strode into the room once more, making the space crowded. I didn't mind.
Seokjin held up a bag and said, "we brought food! Want some?"
"Yes, please," I said gratefully, still waking up. I took the to-go bowl of noodles and slurped them down quickly.
"Still hasn't woken up?" Namjoon asked, gazing sadly at Yoongi.
"Not yet," I said.
"I did some research on recovery, and it could be a week or so before he wakes," Jimin sighed.
"I have work tomorrow and the day after, but I can take a few days off to be with him after that," I informed everyone.
"We can work out a schedule tonight," Seokjin said. Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. For a moment, we remained in silence, each of us lost in thought.
"Jihee?" Jimin asked, breaking the silence.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"How do you feel... about... Yoongi hung?" Jimin inquired.
His question caught me by surprise. I thought carefully before answering, "I care about him... a lot."
"He cares for you too," Jimin said tenderly. I wasn't sure what he was trying to convey, though his words seemed honest. "I'm happy he found someone like you." I could only nod, still trying to understand Jimin's statements.
"I miss him already," Jungkook spoke. Everyone murmured words of agreement.
The atmosphere in the crowded hospital room was somber; like raindrops falling into a pond.
"No matter what, we have to stay strong. Yoongi will be back soon," Hoseok spoke words of encouragement, lifting my spirits slightly. I placed my hand on Yoongi's once more.
