12-party time?

Madeline didn't like parties. She had never liked parties. They were annoying and she felt so awkward at most of them, just standing around being a wallflower. It was never a very fun feeling and she really didn't see how anyone could like them. She understood even less how Julian had managed to drag her to one without her screaming bloody murder. He'd mentioned a party a few days ago that one of his friends was having for no apparent reason. She didn't know anyone there but he assured her that she'd have fun. They'd dance a little, have a few drinks, there'd be good music. It'd all be fine. Yeah, right. She was beginning to question the way that she couldn't refuse those deep eyes, that charming smile... She just couldn't do it, she had to say yes and he knew it damn it.

She was all dressed up, in a nice little green party dress, with a pair of very uncomfortable pair of black heels. It was one of the nicest things in her wardrobe- she had a lot of cocktail dresses from all her parent's various parties and for campaign dinners when her father was trying to get elected judge- but this was her least favourite. Her sister had picked it out for her, said it was a clubbing dress. It was low cut, with almost no back, a tight waist and not to mention she felt she could hardly move for flashing someone with how short it was. She didn't exactly look like a slut, but she was definitely cutting it close in that dress. Julian thought she looked ravishing though, of course. He was excited to be able to show her off to his friends. Now that they were one hundred percent officially in love, and all his friends were wondering who his mystery woman was, he felt the need to make them all insanely jealous. Plus, he knew that she didn't have very many friends, if any. She was such a sweet girl and she deserved to have a few close friends. Meeting some people here would at least be a good start for her. He was excited about this, he hadn't gone out partying in awhile. He was sure that this was going to be fun.

Of course, Madeline was nervous as they walked in the door of a posh apartment complex. Music was blaring and people were drinking and dancing. There were people flirting and doing stunts in the pool outside and the whole place was crowded. It was just the way Julian liked it, but Maddy didn't know anyone there. This was weird for her. She'd never been to a party like this.

"This is Ash's place, I've opened for her band a few times, she's pretty cool. I'll have to introduce you to her at some point... what?"

"What?" He was looking at her strangely and she didn't know why.

"You've got that look. That nervous look."

"I've never been a fan of big groups, okay? I don't even know how you talked me into this. I'll be okay, just give me a minute or two to get used to... everyone."

He chuckled then. "They're a lot less scary than they look. The amount of tattoos they have is directly proportionate to how much of a pushover they are- the more the merrier."

That was the problem with hanging out in the rock scene, everyone ended up looking like a typical druggie or mass murderer and Julian didn't even really realize it anymore. They were just normal for him. Obviously Madeline didn't have the same kind of impression. He threw an arm across her shoulders and she took a deep breath, adjusting her dress for about the millionth time. "So, what do normal people do at parties like this?"

"Schmooze, drink, dance a little. And stop touching that dress! It looks fine."

"Fine?"

"As in the 'ooh, damn girl, you look fine'. I'm not saying it like the the bored husband in front of a football game kind of fine."
