Thunder

Prologue

This is the story of how my entire life changed. My name is Kyleigh Everson, but some know me better as Thunder. I was just an ordinary 16 year old girl from a small town in Iowa, a place where nothing exciting ever happens. Until one day...

"Can you believe it's almost summer break?" Caitlyn asks.

"No. This year went by so fast," I say. "Only two more weeks and we will no longer be sophomores."

"Kyleigh, do you realize we are halfway through high school now?" she asks me.

"Ugh!" I groan as I flop onto the couch. "Don't remind me."

Caitlyn and I have been best friends since we were toddlers. Back then, we looked a lot alike but now her light blue eyes don't match my hazel green eyes, and her curly brown hair has gotten much lighter over the years while mine has stayed the same shade of dark brown my entire life.

A loud crack of thunder causes both of us to turn our heads toward the window. Dark storm clouds hang in the sky and rain drops slowly begin to fall.

"I should probably go home now," I tell Caitlyn.

"Do you want a ride?" Caitlyn offers.

"No, it's only two blocks. I can walk."

"You sure?" she asks.

"Yeah," I answer. "See you tomorrow at school."

"Bye," I hear her say as I step out the front door of her house.

Before even a minute has passed, it is pouring outside. Lightning flashes every few seconds above me as I walk. I ignore the growing storm and continue on my way home, even though I'm soaking wet.

I probably should've let Caitlyn give me a ride, I think.

I walk past my neighbor's house, almost home, when suddenly, there is a huge flash of light and then everything goes black.
