Hayley's Point of View
I woke up sometime later sore and groggy. I looked around confused at where I was. All I could see were white walls and beeping moniters.
"Hayley?" A voice called. I sat up and looked around. There were several people in the room, which I now recognized as a hospital room.
My parents were both there, as well as Alex. Daniel was on another hospital bed on the other side of the room. Brooke and Louis were there too.
My mom ran up to me and wrapped her arms gently around my injured body. "I was so worried." She kissed me several times on the forehead and held me tight.
I didn't even realize that there were tears streaming down my face. "I thought I was going to die."
After a few minutes of my mom hanging on to me, my dad came and embraced me too.
I still felt numb as everyone else took their turns giving me a hug. I barely responded to their touch. I still wasn't sure how I felt.
"What happened?" I asked, in a daze.
Alex pulled up a chair next to my bed, and held my hand. "Well, we had finally located the warehouse. We weren't sure if you were there. There was a gunfight, but, no one on our side was seriously injured, thankfully. Before we could do anything, you and Daniel came walking out, then you just collapsed."
"Oh," I vaguely remembered that happening. I looked at Daniel, who sitting up on his bed, listening to our conversation. I couldn't help grinning at him. "You look better."
"Thankfully for me, I didn't get hurt too bad." He slowly got up and walked over to me. Despite my family surrounding us, he bent down and kissed me, then wrapped his arms around me. I relaxed at his touch, then clasped his hands with my free one.
"Anyway," Alex continued. "You've been out for almost three days."
"Three days?" I gaped.
"You had a lot of injuries." He clenched his fist. "I can't believe they did that to you as just a warning. You could have died. You almost did."
"Did they do other... things to you?" My mom's voice was shaky.
I slowly nodded. I took a breath and started to speak, but no words came out. Instead I let out a loud sob.
Alex's expression turned to stone, as well as everyone else in the room. "We were so worried."
I just realized that I had no idea what went on for the past week at the Greenhouse. I rubbed his hand and his expression softened.
My dad took a deep breath, obviously trying to distract me from the question. "You lost a lot of blood, Hayley. You had to borrow some from Alex." I looked over at Alex again. He grinned and held up a juice box as proof.
"I'm sorry. I just went to the cave, and the next thing I knew..." I trailed off.
"It's okay. You don't have to talk about it or apologize."
"Did we get them?"
"We arrested everyone at the scene. Alder Cross, we haven't been able to apprehend. He wasn't at the warehouse when we got there." He paused. "We'll find him. And I will never let him hurt you, ever again."
My eyelids were drooping, but I was fighting to keep them open. I knew everyone wanted to make sure I was okay, and to probably just be with me right now, but I wasn't sure how much longer I could stay awake.
Louis seemed to notice this, and he ushered everyone out of the room, until it was just Daniel and I. Daniel was back on the other side of the room again, lying in his own bed.
I turned so I was facing Daniel. He was staring at me intently. He didn't talk for a full minute, then finally he spoke up. "I love you, Hayley."
Neither of us had said it before, but it didn't feel forced or wrong. "I love you too, Daniel." I was easily able to return his declaration.
"I think I almost went insane when you were gone. Then I saw you in that condition. I was so scared, Hayley. I thought you were going to die." He rubbed at the corner of his eyes.
I wanted to run over to him, but I wasn't sure if I could stand. "It's okay. I'm here now."
Despite my best efforts, I could no longer manage to stay awake. I closed my eyes and fell fast asleep.
