The rain was getting harder and he pulled the coat more tightly around himself so he could get at least some protection from the rain.
Doctor Stephen Strange was hurrying home. He ran through the puddles and turned to different streets. He didn't have an umbrella or a hat and he could feel the raindrops falling into his collar. He ran through another puddle and turned to the last street he had to walk through before finally reaching his home. It was quieter and there were only a few people.
Then, he heard quiet sobs. He immediately stopped and looked around, trying to find the person who sobbed. But nothing. He tried to shut the raining sounds out and focus on the sobs. If someone was alone and sad, he wanted to help.
The sobs came from the small side street. He turned to there. It was dark and slippery. The sobs became louder and louder and finally, through the rain, he saw a small figure. He walked closer.
It was a small girl.
She was standing there and sobbing, tears falling down on her face. On her right hand, she had a small toy mouse. Doctor kneeled down to her.
,, Where is your mum?" He asked, hoping that the girl would hear him throughout the rain.
,, We came here and she asked me to close my eyes and count to ten. When I opened my eyes, she was gone." Sobs became louder. ,, I waited here but she never came back." She looked at him with hope. ,, Do you know where she is?"
How could someone do that?
Doctor sighed. ,, Sadly, no..." He looked around quickly. ,,Do you trust me?"
The girl looked at him for a while. ,, Yes."
,, Then let's go." He took the girl and stood up. ,, Hold on tightly." Then, he started to run again. The girl squeezed her mouse and hid her face in Stephen's coat. She showed immovable trust against the doctor.
Strange saw his house and hurried up because the rain was getting stronger. He opened the door and went in quickly. He put the girl down and closed the door firmly. Then the rain started to beat the streets and roofs hardly. He saighed in relief.
The girl looked around the house, what was actually a library. Stephen's flat was upstairs.
,, I'm going to make you some tea and bring dry clothes."
The girl nodded and sat down on a chair, still trying to realise what had happened.
The doctor went upstairs and closed the bedroom door right behind himself. He couldn't believe what he had just done. It was the right thing to do, but still, it seemed unbelievable. He went to the clothes drawers, knowing that he had no clothes for a small girl, but, he was Doctor Strange, a sorcerer and he could easily enchant the clothes from bigger to smaller. And that's exactly what he did.
He went downstairs and saw that the girl still sat on the chair glancing around the room. He took the clothes to her. There were one blue long-sleeved shirt and pair of black jeans with socks.
,, Here, put these on. I'm gonna make you some tea while your here. If you're ready, come to the kitchen. It's there." He pointed at the other side of the room and on the brown wooden door.
The girl nodded. It was still unbelievable that she trusted that completely strange man who just had picked her up from a street and carried her to his home.
The doctor went to the kitchen and the girl followed him when she was ready.
,, Sit." Stephen offered and the girl accepted it. He gave her a cup of tea with a sandwich and sat down too.
,, Carefully, it's hot." He warned and the girl blow on it and took a bite from the sandwich.
,, It's good." She said quietly. ,, Thank you."
Stephen smiled. ,, You're welcome."
They looked out of the window for a while, listened how the rain beat the roofs and streamed down on the windows.
,, Tomorrow, I'm going to hang out announcements so your parents could find you."
The girl took a sip of tea. ,, I don't think they want me anymore."
Stephen laughed. ,, Stupid thought." But deep inside he knew that the girl might be right.
,, Okay. Enough for this subject." He wanted to know something more important. ,, What's your name?" He asked.
The girl doubted a bit before answering.
,, Emily...Black." She answered. ,, And you?",, Doctor...Stephen Strange."
,, Nice to meet you."
,, You too." This girl was very polite.
,, When are you going to find my mum?" Emily asked.
He sighed. ,, Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after that..." He looked at the girl. Her face was full of hope. ,, On one day for sure."
But sadly, that day never came.
