When she looked at him yesterday,
His gaze shone like a star's ray.
Her heartstrings fondled a jolly tune,
Etching in her heart a love rune.

When she looked at him today,
He smiled at her in a way,
That made the strings blare a happy song.
Yet, she knew she wished wrong.

When she'd look at him tomorrow,
She'd tell him, without sorrow,
That she'd give him her heart to mend.
But the ethereal song did abruptly end.

She didn't see him the next day,
And lost what she had to say.
But he too had looked out for her,
But couldn't sense the lurking danger.

She never saw him again,
As silence struck through the pain.
Weeping, he knew he'd never be brave,
As he laid the flowers on her ghastly grave.
