Summer was fast approaching.Beads of perspiration formed around everyone’s forehead but I remained as cool as the winter.
I looked around the magnificent palace which held my attention. It was the festival of Ester. Preparations had begun from months before. And they turned out glorious.
The glass chandeliers hung from the dome-shaped structure which was covered with abstract color paintings. The palace was draped with colours and light so much so that even the darkest of the nights could not pierce through it. The walls and the floor were covered with cloth in which the unicorn of the Stryan Dynasty was embedded with blue silk.
Almost all the people, Lord of the Lords, Queen of the Queens, Masters of the Age, Dukes, Renegades of various kingdoms, Princes, and Princess had come to admire the beauty of the palace. The beauty of Ester.
Princes asked the hands of many princesses to dance with them, many already lost in the music, moving with their partners.
I gave my hand to none as it was reserved to a special person whom I kept close in my heart-
It was for my lover, who was betrothed to me.I was waiting for her on my seat which took me on a higher ground as my status would permit me to.
Besides, I saw Father and Mother occupy an even higher seat than me.
They were busy talking to some of the Lords of the Bryans who had sweared their fealty to us.
I was soon lost to the music played by a group of skilled violinists.
Music acts as a way to me to derail from the millions of problems I have. It's symphony speaks the same to all- regardless of whether he owns a fortune or not. It's a way for me to express the dark, roiling storm in me and not hurt the others around me.
And so, I forget everyone and dived into the world of music waiting for my mistress.
No sooner was I in the depths of the ocean of chords, when I heard one of the doorkeepers shout, “Princess Mikasa, heir of the Bryans, Noblest of all, Protector of Justice, betrothed to Prince Kaiser Kay, has arrived!”
And there she came in to the Hall, like a majestic tigress. Everyone made way for her and yet gaped at her.
I was ecstatic to look at her dazzling fair face.
She was draped with a white silk gown which seemed to adore her skinny frame. Atop her snow-white hair was a tiara made of the most exquisite gems ever found in this realm.
She strutted towards me and I went down to meet her, all while being mesmerised by her ethereal beauty. I took her fragile yet strong hands and kissed it fervently.
“My Lady, I hope your journey here was comfortable.” I said.
“It was, my Lord. I have brought with me some gifts from the Bryans. Please do not reject it for the honour and for the love you bear me.”
I went skiing in my mind- thinking about how perfect she was, though she doesn't ever accept it.
After we're married, I'd remind her about how perfect she was, until her ears ache. I'd always stay by her-I was aroused from my thoughts when a rock came tumbling from above and hit the ground.
Slowly, bricks and tapestry raided from the ceiling.
The once prepossessing palace was now reducing to rubble.
Memories, being projected randomly in my mind blinded me as I saw the soldiers and servants betray us.
The cruel Bryans had wiped the Stryans completely.
Everyone had been betrayed and were now taking their last breaths of the air filled with anguish.
I could see the shattered throne atop the dais. The symbol of the unicorn hung on the walls remained no longer, destroyed by the forces of the nature. All that remained was broken stones, walls, roofs and of course the nightmares.
My father, who was the king, no longer lived.
Blood sprayed from my mother's frail neck Mikasa ran her sword along it.
Tears flooded my eyes.
The Queen-slayer looked at me and smiled with her pearly white teeth.
My heart shattered and I saw my Mikasa walk towards me, blood, not her own, running down her face and her gossamer gown.
Our own soldiers had betrayed us.
My princess had betrayed me.
The Universe had betrayed me.
The Creator had betrayed me.
Mikasa neared me and laughed. The once-melodious sound now painfully rang in my ear.
"You trust everyone too easily, Kaiser." She crooned.
Before she could use that tainted sword, I picked up the dagger from my waist.
I cursed everyone as I stabbed.
I went into the outstretched arms of Death, as my own blood smeared the dagger.
