"Who are you?" you questioned immediately once coming back into consciousness. You were in the arms of a leaf ninja, probably jounin.
"I should be asking you that," he said, allowing you to sit up on your own. You scanned your surroundings... you weren't very far from the cave you had been placed in so you assumed it had not been long since you blacked out.
There were 2 other ninjas, all of which seemed quite strong. You'd heard of the leaf ninjas from your parents. They had always spoken admirably of them, so you felt slightly more comfortable in their presence. Still, you were hesitant to tell them who you were. What were their intentions? They began talking amongst themselves.
"She seems to be young, around the age of our ninjas in training," said one of the ninjas, his hair was black and bowl cut. He wore green.
"So what do we do with her?" asked another ninja with silver hair and a cloth covering most of his face. "We haven't completed our mission yet."
"But the fate of our youth is more IMPORTANT!" yelled Bowl-Cut. You flinched at the loudness of his voice. The two ninja seemed to be rivals... maybe?
"Be quiet you two," the ninja who had held you shushed them. He stared into your eyes intensely like he was trying to figure something out. "Let's skip the mission for now. Hokage will understand. This girl looks like she's starving and her body is covered in bruises and cuts. Guy is right, we should care about someone's life more than a mission."
The ninja presumably called Guy silently celebrated the defeat of his silver-haired rival, who rolled his eye(s) but said nothing to argue.
"But first, you have to tell us who you are," the kind ninja said to me. "I'm Asuma Sarutobi, that's Kakashi Hatake, and that's Might Guy. We're of the Hidden Leaf Village."
You thought for a few seconds, but reasoned that you could tell them who you were.
"I'm [F/n] [L/n]," you stated. Sarutobi took off his vest and put it over you, noticing your lack of clothing. You nodded in thanks silently and stood up with the leaf jounin.
"What will happen to me?" you asked as you walked alongside the three.
"Well, we're taking you back to our village. You'll talk to the Hokage, we'll run background checks on you, and if you're clear, we'll offer you citizenship and a home. You'll start training to become a ninja like the rest of our youngsters, and you'll get put into a squad if you pass the genin test. Of course, that's the best case scenario," Sarutobi answered.
You nodded and continued the rest of the trek silently. My background is clean... I should be clear, and if they give me a home and financial aid then I'll be okay, you thought. You reached the gates of the Leaf Village and were ushered to the Hokage's tower. After many hours of questioning, you were deemed clear, given a small apartment and a brown envelope filled with ryo, which was supposed to last the month. They were kind enough to dress your wounds with ointment and bandages, and gave you a bath. You felt amazing afterwards... well, amazing compared to what you had felt in that cave. The thought of the people who trapped you there made you angry...
You were then guided to your new home. It came with bedding, furniture, a stocked kitchen and bathroom, and basically everything you could ever need. Upon seeing the food, you raced through the front door, breaking free of Kakashi and Sarutobi's grasp.
"Oh, we forgot to feed her," Kakashi uttered, rubbing the back of his head. Sarutobi facepalmed and shook his head.
"Woops."
...
"Will you be alright on your own?" Sarutobi asked.
"I should be fine," you replied. You bowed deeply to them as Kakashi and Sarutobi exited your new home. They were surprised. "Thank you for saving me!"
"...No problem," Kakashi replied.
"You didn't even want to save her, idiot," Sarutobi hit the back of Kakashi's scalp.
"You're welcome," Sarutobi smiled.
You watched them walk their respective routes home and then returned to your house. It had one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. There was plenty of clothes in the closet, so you didn't have to worry about buying any. Your parents would have been satisfied if they saw your living conditions. Unfortunately, they were in a rough spot at the moment, and you had not seen them in over a year. You'd rather not go into it at this moment.
So, you ate some instant ramen... like five packs of it... and gulped down plenty of clean water. It was the most satisfying meal ever. Then, you glanced at the envelope you had been given. Sitting at your small dining table, you ripped it open and examined the contents. Around 12,000 ryo (or $1,200), a map, and a handwritten note. You took it out and read it.
Perhaps we are pushing you too quickly into action after the traumatic events you have suffered, but we are always in need of more skilled ninja. Seeing your parents records, we cannot let you idle at home and recover like we would normally allow. Please excuse my selfishness; I only care about the welfare of my village and people, that of which you are now a part of. So, starting tomorrow, you will be placed into a beginner's class for ninja training. Although our ninja are already past the halfway mark in their school year, I believe you possess the skills required to catch up to them. Please follow the route traced in red on your map to the school. Starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Good luck, and welcome to the Leaf Village!
Sincerely,
Hokage
"Hmph," you sighed. It was not of discontent, nor of relief. You weren't sure how you felt about the quickness of the Leaf Village's movements, but you refused to complain. How could you find your parents if you weren't a trained ninja? How could you defeat those that had trapped you in that cave? You tucked all the contents back into the envelope except for the map and hid it under your mattress.
You noticed a large bookshelf stood against the wall of your room. It was filled to the brim with novels and informative guides. You took down every book about taijutsu, genjutsu, and ninjutsu and began reading. Although it was starting to get dark, you felt wide awake. You were determined to learn as much as you could both at school and in self-study.
"I'll catch up! And I'll be better! I've got to be..."And so, you went to studying.
A/n: Ahh, another chapter. I wonder how long I'll make this fanfic? Because I'm definitely not going to follow the entire series out to the end. Maybe I'll make it a multiple book series... Well, let's just see how this plays out.
Anyways, I do hope you've enjoyed reading. If you did, feel free to leave a comment, vote, and/or add this story to your reading lists! I love getting feedback <3
