Chapter 6
"Come in," I said when someone knocked on my bedroom door.
Susannah popped her head in with a smirk, "Some extremely handsome boy is at the front door. He said he was here to pick you up."
I groaned and rolled off my bed, "He's not handsome, he's an annoying jerk. Tell him to wait and I'll be down in five minutes."
She nodded then closed my door. I went into my bathroom to trade in my glasses for contacts then donned some shoes and dragged myself down the stairs. I rolled my eyes when Archer winked at me.
"Hey there, Sienna," he smiled charmingly.
I crossed my arms, "Let's just get this over with. Where are we going?"
"You'll see," he said as he walked out the door.
As I got in his car, I asked, "How do I know you're not kidnapping me?"
He laughed, "Oh, please. Sienna, if anyone kidnapped you, they'd get ick of you so fast that they'd give you back."
"Says the one who's obsessed with being my friend," I snapped.
Archer chuckled as he backed out of the driveway, "You've got so much attitude. It's quite impressive actually."
"Shut up," I glared at him.
"Thank you for proving my point."
I decided it was best if I just shut my mouth so I stopped talking and glared out my window instead.
After ten minutes of driving, I finally asked, "Where are you taking me, Archer?"
"We're almost there. Calm down," Archer replied, not taking his eyes off the road.
I groaned and laid my head back in the seat. It took another five minutes until we finally reached our destination. And when we did, I had to admit, I was not disappointed.
"The carnival?" I asked as Archer parked.
"Yep," he smiled brightly.
"Wow," I breathed as I slowly stepped out of the car.
I took a moment to just stare out at all of the colorful rides and booths.
"I figured that you could use a little fun," Archer winked at me.
He started walking toward the front gate and I quickly ran to catch up.
Archer, of course, insisted on being a gentleman and paid for me to get in.
I couldn't stop smiling as we walked through the carnival. There were so many different games and rides and stands. I whipped my head around in every direction, taking everything in. I felt like a little kid.
"What do you want to go on first?" Archer smiled down at me.
I grinned, grabbed his hand, and pulled him to my favorite ride as a kid. The Merry-Go-Round.
Archer laughed, "Oh my gosh. There is no way I'm riding that thing. I'm seventeen years old, not seven."
I pouted, "Come on, Archer. You wanted me to have fun, right?"
He sighed, "I'm so going to regret this."
I smiled and dragged him into the line. We only had to wait a few minutes before we were on our own horses. My horse was pink, Archer's was gold and purple.
I couldn't stop smiling and laughing while my horse went up and down and up and down whille going round and round in circles.
"I haven't been on one of these since I was four," I told Archer.
"Seriously? Man, my sister rode these things until she was twelve," he chuckled.
"Well, my parents became big in the business world around the time I was five so I didn't see them much after that. I still don't. I haven't been to a carnival at all since I was four."
"Wow, I'm sorry. I guess being rich isn't that great if you never see your parents," Archer frowned.
My face fell, "Yeah. Susannah is the only family I have. My parents are coming home for a few days this Monday so that's good."
I shrugged, "Anyway, isn't this fun? Aren't you glad I made you ride it?"
He chuckled, "Yeah, I am. Aren't you glad I talked you into coming with me?"
I rolled my eyes and grinned, "Yeah, I guess I am. But don't make the mistake of thinking that we're friends now."
Archer smirked, "No, of course not."
We spent the rest of the day riding rides and playing the carnival games. Archer bought me a funnel cake and some cotton candy then I insisted on buying him ice cream.
At the game where you have to toss a ring around a bottle, Archer won a prize.
"Which prize would you like, son?" the carnie asked Archer.
He smiled at me, "Pick whatever one you want, Sienna."
I laughed, "You're trying to buy my friendship with a stuffed animal, aren't you?"
He smiled and winked, "Darn. You caught me. Go ahead, pick one."
I looked up at the prizes on the shelves and fell in love with this adorable little bunny. It was brown and white with big floppy ears and a pink bow around it's neck.
I squealed when I saw it, "Oh my gosh, can I please have that little, brown bunny?"
Archer chuckled at my childishness while the carnie grabbed the bunny.
"Here you go, sweetie," he handed me the stuffed animal.
"Thank you!" I hugged it to my chest and bounced up and down like a little girl.
As we were walking away, I stopped and hugged Archer, "Thank you! I love it!"
Archer smiled brightly, "I've never seen anyone get so excited over a stuffed bunny before."
I smiled at the bunny as I said, "I haven't gotten a stuffed animal like this in forever."
He smiled softly at me, "Well, now you have one."
I smiled and skipped along through the carnival. We stayed there until it got dark then Archer took me back home.
Sitting in Archer's car, I said, "Thank you for today. I had more fun than I've had in twelve years. I still don't like you though."
Archer smiled a smile that looked forced then I felt bad and added, "But I guess you aren't as bad as I thought."
He smiled for real this time, "Goodnight, Sienna."
"Night, Woods," I said before getting out and running inside my house.
I found Susannah in the living room, watching TV, and I plopped onto the couch next to her.
"Hey, sweetheart. Did you have a good time?" she asked me.
I smiled brightly, "I had the best night ever. And look! Archer won me this cute bunny!"
Susannah chuckled then kissed me on the head, "I'm glad you had fun. I'm going to bed now. Goodnight, dear."
"Goodnight," I chirped.
I skipped upstairs to my bathroom and removed my contacts. It felt good to have them out and wear my glasses again. I changed into my pajamas and jumped onto my bed. I quickly fell asleep, still holding my bunny.
