Chapter 2
I woke up at the sound of my alarm clock blaring. I groaned and slapped the "off" button. I groggily put on my glasses, successfully poking myself in the eye in the process. I smiled as I breathed in the smell of Susannah cooking pancakes and bacon downstairs.
I shuffled over to my walk-in closet and stared at my rows of clothes. I had no idea what to wear today. After five minutes, I decided on a dark blue, lacey top, black skinny jeans, and my black heels. It was my favorite outfit so it seemed like the best thing to wear on the first day of junior year.
After changing, I took my golden blonde hair out of the messy bun it had been in and yanked my brush through it. After I got all of the knots out, I decided to curl my hair. When I was finished, it fell down my back and over my shoulders in perfect, little ringlets. I smiled at my good work and proceeded with applying my makeup. Just a little blush, eyeliner, and mascara then I was finished. I actually never used foundation. It made me feel gross and clownish.
I put my glasses back on and skipped downstairs to the kitchen. Susannah was just finishing the food, flopping a pancake on a plate before handing it to me. I proceeded to add a pile of bacon to my plate. She always cooked a bunch of bacon because she new I loved it.
"Thank you, Susannah," I said as I munched happily on my bacon.
She smiled sweetly, "You're welcome, sweetheart. You look beautiful today. Just like every day."
I blushed. Susannah always made me feel good about myself. She was just a good person like that.
"Thanks, Sue," I smiled.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Sienna, your parents called. They said they wouldn't be home this weekend like they thought. They have to stay in California for another couple weeks," Susannah said sadly.
I frowned. "Oh. Alright. That's okay."
I forced a smile and so did Susannah. We didn't expect much different. They were always doing this. They'd say they'd be home by a certain day, but then they'd always stay way longer than they said. I was just glad that I had Susannah around.
"Sienna Jewel! You're going to be late for your first day of junior year if you don't hurry up and eat that food," Susannah chided.
I hadn't realized that I'd been staring at my food rather than eating it. I shoved a bite of pancake into my mouth, and mumbled, "Sorry."
She smiled then took her food to eat it at the dining room table. I just stayed at the kitchen counter. I quickly downed the rest of my breakfast then rushed back upstairs to my bathroom.
I quickly brushed my teeth, leaving behind a minty scent. I took off my glasses and set them down, but I stopped before putting my contacts in. I smiled at the girl in the mirror. Straight, white teeth. Those braces had been some use at least. Sea green eyes. Long, golden blonde hair. A slim figure. Designer outfit. I was proud of the girl I'd become. I wasn't a loser anymore. I was beautiful and proud of who I was for the first time in my life.
I proceeded to put in my contacts. Suddenly the world became clearer. I grabbed the black handbag that matched my outfit, slung my designer book bag over my shoulder, and snatched my keys off my desk.
Before dashing out the door, I yelled to Susannah, "Bye, Susannah! I'll see you when I get back from school!"
Without waiting for a reply, I rushed out the front door, slamming it behind me. I quickly ran, which was quite difficult to do since I was in heels, to my red Mustang parked in the driveway. I didn't waste any time getting to school. I had twenty minutes before classes actually started, but I wanted to get there early to find my locker and also my friends.
