"I didn't expect to see you here, Y/n. Did leaving to Japan make you realize how much you've sinned?"
My entire body froze. I was too scared to turn around. I haven't seen them ever since I moved to Japan. I held back the tears that were forming in my eyes and finally turned around with the ounce of courage I had left.
"Hey Mom....Dad..."
My mother scoffed,"We're not your parents, you disgrace. I couldn't have possibly given birth to a disgusting dyke."
"Why couldn't you like boys like every other girl? You are a sinner, Y/n," My father joined in.
"Y/n..." Rikako whispered as she held onto my hand.
"Is this your girlfriend?" My mother asked, glaring at Rikako. "Ugh...disgusting. Two girls can't love each other. I should've taken you to the doctor. Maybe they could've cured you from this illness. She's not even pretty. Hideous would be an understatement."
I chuckled to myself. My "parents" looked at me with fear in their eyes. They must've thought I was going crazy. Oh, indeed I am.
"Mom, Dad, let's go outside. I don't want to cause a scene."
"You actually got something right for once. I might catch whatever it is you have in a stuffy room like this," My father spat.
I gently squeezed Rikako's hand before I led them outside of the restaurant. As we arrived outside, they looked at me, expecting me to say something. I took a deep breath and exhaled. Stuffing my hands in my pockets, I faced my parents.
"I don't think you understand what you just said back there," I started.
"Oh really? Care to explain?"
"First of all, you guys may not realize this since you are so ignorant and can't seem to get out of the cave you live in, but it's 2020. The LGBTQ+ community has been widely accepted in the U.S. There are no studies saying that we are sick, so you are the sick ones for saying that."
In case you forgot, it's 2020, so Rikako is 27, almost 28 since it's not August yet.
I continued, "Secondly, you honestly can't use religion as an excuse to bully me like this, because last time I checked, God loved everyone equally, and honestly, didn't God create me to be the way that I am?"
They didn't speak, which made sense, because I was right and they knew it, so I continued to my last argument.
"Lastly and most importantly, I'll have you know that Rikako is the most beautiful woman in the world and I'm lucky enough to even have the chance of being with her, so think twice before you call her hideous. You obviously have no idea what true beauty is, since you're both so ugly on the inside."
My hands were shaking from the adrenaline rushing through my veins. The two of them still stood there speechless. I turned on my heel and walked back inside the restaurant, leaving them to think about what I said. When I returned, everyone looked at me with worry in their eyes, especially Rikako. I grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it.
"Are you okay, Y/n?" She asked.
I grinned,"Never felt better."
"I'm glad you're okay, Y/n. We can talk about it later, but for now, let's eat!" Anchan announced.
Some of the members were still a little concerned, but their worries faded away once they realized that I was telling the truth. Luckily, dealing with my parents didn't take too long, so the food arrived the second I stepped back in. I put a spoonful of rice in my mouth and smiled in delight.
"This is really good!" King exclaimed.
"It's different from eating rice in Japan," Arisha commented. "It's delicious."
"It makes me curious about the other types of food America has to offer!" Shuka grinned.
"I know a lot of places, so I'll show you guys around," I offered.
Our time at the restaurant went by quickly. We all had so much fun that I almost forgot I saw my parents. We talked, shared stories, and laughed together. I wouldn't want it any other way.
Later, I explained my side of the story to everyone when we returned to our hotel. They understood how I felt and were glad that I was able to stand up to my parents. Then, everyone left and it was just me and Rikako in our room.
I got out of the bathroom and jumped into bed,"I'm so tired."
"Let's sleep. We both did a lot of things today," Rikako said.
"Yeah," I adjusted my position on the bed and turned off the lamp next to me.
"Goodnight Y/n."
"Goodnight Rikako."
––––––––
"We're back in Japan!" Aikyan exclaimed. "People can understand me!"
"People can barely understand you here," Arisha replied.
"So mean!"
"It does feel nice being back in Japan," Suwawa chuckled.
"Hey Rikako, wanna come over?" I asked.
"Can't get enough, Y/n?" Ainya teased.
                   My cheeks grew warm,"Sh-Shut up."
"Yeah, I'll come over," Rikako answered, completely ignoring Aniya's comment.
Eventually, we were in my apartment. I put on a movie and brought some snacks. She moved closer towards me and leaned on my shoulder. I rested my head on hers and watched the movie silently. I found myself smiling as I watched her react to certain scenes in the film. Once the movie was over, I stood up and began putting everything back where they belonged.
                  "Let me help," Rikako offered.
She began helping me put stuff away. She had to ask a few times where something went, because she didn't know where to place it. I laughed as she accidentally made the box fall after she put it in the cabinet. She covered her mouth as she laughed, embarrassed by her own actions.
Afterwards, I looked at the clock and noticed that it was late. Watching a movie after a plane ride wasn't exactly the best choice. Rikako came out of the kitchen, noticing the time as well.
"It's really late. Do you wanna stay? I don't necessarily have another bed, but I can sleep on the couch if you want," I offered.
                   "Y/n, we've shared a bed before. I really don't mind," She smiled.
                   "Oh, right."
"You can shower first," She said. "I just want to lay down for a moment."
"Alright. I won't take too long."
I quickly showered and prepared for bed, before walking out. She noticed my presence and stood up, making her way towards the bathroom. I walked to my bed and moved my nesos somewhere else so there was more room. Then, I laid down on my bed and relaxed.
After a while, Rikako took up the space next to me. I instantly felt warmth in the part of my arm where we made contact. I turned towards her and found her looking at me as well.
I spoke, "L.A. was fun. A lot of things happened, but I had fun overall."
"Me too," She agreed. "Let's travel somewhere else together someday."
                    "That would be nice."
"I'm glad I got to learn about you, Y/n," Rikako smiled at me.
"Yeah it's a lot better to learn in person than learn about someone through the internet," I joked.
                    "You're not wrong."
Our eyes met and her gaze made me feel warm inside. Her smile was contagious. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much. This moment seemed to last longer than it probably should've.
Due to impulse, I pushed myself into her warmth. I popped the bubble that kept us apart and put my lips on hers. Out of surprise, her body was tense, but she eventually returned the kiss. A kiss full of passion and love that made my heart leap out of my chest. Her lips were as soft and sweet as I imagined.
I pulled away before I got too lost in that beautiful moment. I tried to catch my breath and stop my heart from beating much faster than it should. Her brown eyes stared back at me, still surprised by what had just happened. Her eyes showed no fear, nor doubt, and definitely didn't show disgust.
                       "Y/n..." She started.
I nodded silently as I waited to hear what she had to say.
                         "I think I love you."
