PUNCTUATION— what the teachers don't tell you

Comma— Everytime you write, you will most likely use a comma. Basically, if you take a break right in the middle of a sentence, that's where your comma goes. Example: The trees are very pretty, tall and green. The flowers are healthy, thanks to the bees." And if you're explaining a character doing three or more actions in the same sentence. Example: He ran out of his room, down the stairs, out the door, and to the car."

PSA: commas do NOT belong after the word "is", ex:
wrong: My favorite thing about summer is, the wind and the sun.

correct: My favorite thing about summer is the wind and the sun.

Exclamation point— Anytime a character is excited, yelling, or just has a loud voice, you put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence. Example: "I'm so excited!" Or, "Go to your room and don't come down until I tell you!"

Question mark— Whenever a character asks a question, you put a question mark at the end of the sentence. Example:

"Mom, can I have a dog?" I ask.

Mom laughs. "Why would you want a dog?"

I roll my eyes. "Why wouldn't I? Dogs are so fun to have, they can protect you, and it would teach me responsibility. So, what do you say? Can we get a dog?"

Mom smiles. "I'll talk to your father."

Period— Every time you end a sentence that isn't a question, rant, or exciting, you put a period. Example: Today was so boring. We didn't learn anything at school, the teachers were all cranky, and they served us just plain sandwiches for lunch.

That's all that I can think of, at the top of my head! If I didn't mention one, please tell me and I'll add it to my list!! Hope this helped!
