I was patiently waiting for lunch to come around, but it was as if the universe was against me today.
I couldn't pay attention to anything that the teachers were saying, I just wanted to see Amalia. I got a small glimpse at her during passing periods, but it was only her back.
I was so excited, finally, I would have a chance. I would be able to tell her how I feel. I could even maybe show her.
Finally, it was lunchtime. I rushed to the table and waited for her to show up. Everyone else eventually showed up but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is Amalia?" I ask Odette.
"She is talking with Roger."
'Oh no. knowing her, she might give him a chance.'
I had to face the facts. She is known to give second chances, what if she gave one to him?
My mood was slowly diminishing so I went to grab some food. When I came back, she still wasn't there.
I feel someone scoot into the seat next to me excitedly.
I look up immediately but I end up disappointed when I see Zion.
"Did she do it?" she bounces a little.
"We haven't heard from her," Lenina shrugs.
"I talked with her earlier. She was still nervous but I think she will be okay," Odette explains.
"Maybe, or she'll end up giving him a second chance," I mumble.
"What do you mean?" Farrah asks.
"Well let's face it, Amalia is known for giving second chances. Who's to say that she won't do that with Roger," Jackson explains.
Noah gives me a sympathetic look.
'I should hit him, he's being a little too obvious.'
"You know, they might be right. There's a huge chance that she might just do that, especially after talking with the coach. He doesn't know everything and maybe he will think that Roger is a lovesick teenager that can still fix this and make her happy," Jacob shrugs.
"Oh God, I hope not," Desaray complains.
"Agreed," Zion mumbles.
We try talking about other things instead but it was obvious that everyone was still thinking about Amaila giving Roger another chance.
A while later, lunch was about to end and Amalia still hadn't shown up.
We all gave up hope and assumed that maybe she did give Roger the second chance.
"Hey, guys!" We hear Amalia's voice and we all turn right away.
'Please be alone! Please! Please!'
She takes a seat on my other side and gives us a small smile.
Nobody dares to ask.
We weren't sure if she would get all emotional or if she wasn't ready to talk about it.
I wasn't ready to hear the answer but it was killing me so I nudge her.
"You okay?" I ask.
Imeadiately all of the air escaped my lungs.
You wouldn't notice it if you didn't pay close attention, but if you studied her carefully, you could see the outline of a thick line across her face. It was faint because she managed to cover it with makeup. I try to see if there was anything else but I could only see a faint handprint with some more thick lines on her arms.
