Rayes awaited her pursuers in an armored truck. The vehicle had the ability of stopping a rocket launcher, so she was able to sit comfortably in front of her computer. She was video calling with none other than Schema himself, along with De Santa.
"You're certain Newton has a trail?" De Santa inquired.
"Absolutely. The bullet still had my genetic information on it. All he needed was a sniff, and he picked up the trail."
"Where is he now?"
"On the way, I'd assume."
"And what do you plan on doing once he finds you, miss Rayes?" Schema interjected.
"Through my tests, along with doctor De Santa's, have shown that extreme heat damages the symbiote. With enough time and pressure, I believe it could completely kill the symbiote, and render Mr. Newton either dead, or wishing he was." She snickered and took a sip from her coffee cup.
"Amazing. Do you have any tools to project that much fire?"
"In fact, I do." She pulled a weapon from under her desk, which looked like a giant ball with piping around it. "Not the prettiest, but it'll scorch that black goo clean off that little bastard.""Oh will it?" Rayes heard a deep, angry voice; course and dry. She spun around in her chair, and saw no one.
"Rayes? Are you still there?"
"Ye-yes sir, professor Schema."
"Rayes?" She peered down at her keyboard, and saw the mute button had been pressed, but nearly screamed in terror when she realized what was on it: V Serum. The professors on the screen could read her face, and orders began shooting around.
"You wanted us, here we are." She spun around again, and saw the hooded figure of Leo Newton, the voice of Venom and the boy combined into a terrifying sound. His hands were in his coat pockets, and his lips were pulled back in a dark grin, his bleach white teeth marked by blood. She glanced into a security camera screen, and saw several guards, severed in several pieces and contorted into gruesome shapes. Rayes quickly snatched for the weapon, but it was slashed in half by a black knife, which had replaced his hand. The goo from Venom had become a weapon! She began panicking, and backed up against a wall. On the video screen, Schema and De Santa watched in horror as the two stood a foot apart, and the audio came back.
"Wha..what are you?" She gasped out.
"We are many things, but one." Venom began leaking from the sleeves and collar of his jacket. "We are the Monster of Middleburg. We are the first NonHuman. The terror of a city. We are the perfect hybridization of human and alien..." Venom's face got inches apart from the nurse's, and his dagger-like teeth created a demonic grin, similar to Leo's. "We...are Venom, and we hunger."All Schema heard was a scream, and the video cut out.
"Professor..what was that?" De Santa asked in a panic.
"Get troops there. Now!" The younger doctor nodded, and spoke into an earpiece, shutting off his video call. Schema stared at the blank screen where his partner had disappeared. Rankin first, now Rayes. He was going through the list of those there when they were bound together..and he wasn't going to stop.
"You there! Nurse!" A young man turned to the professor.
"Yes sir?"
"Get Jenkins on the line. I need him to whip me up a little..anti-venom."As the life faded from Rachel Rayes' eyes, and the blood poured from the gaping wound in her throat, Leo did the same thing he did to Rankin, and absorbed her mind. He suddenly lunged backwards and held his head, pain searing through his skull as Venom ripped through the memories, looking for something useful.
"Rayes!"
"Yes, professor Schema?"
"We've lost contact with Rankin. I think..I think Venom got him."
"The NonHuman? That's nonsense, he doesn't know where he is."
"Well police arrived at his home. They said they found an elderly man..decapitated. They say he was tortured. He has information. Find him, and have our agents dispose of Venom and Mr. Newton."They felt a swirl as they seemed to move forward in time, speeding past memories.
"Has Jenkins completed the cure?"
"Not that I know of, Doctor De Santa. It's funny, isn't it? We have to make a cure, for a cure."
"That...thing is not a cure to anything. It's a monster."
"I just got a call. Professor Schema is overlooking the plans for Project A-V."
"So it's a go?"
"At this point, it's almost a certainty."
"Excellent..."Leo snapped back, and fell forward.
This..project A-V, we must learn more.
"It's unfortunate..she didn't know more." They jerked up at the sound of sirens outside the vehicle, dove out the window, and took off down the street and out into the night.
