“Savannah, honey, Lachy’s here.” Mum kindly whispers to me as she peeps her head around my bedroom door. I lift my head, “Thanks mum,” Her eyes scan the mess of papers plastering my desk. “How’s the homework going?” I sit up and stretch, “Study for the French test.” I yawn.

Lachy wanders into my room. His hair is ruffled, and I see a tassel with a lighter shade of brown sweeping across his forehead. He smiles and pulls me up for a bear hug and a kiss on the cheek.

We talked about absolutely nothing for ages. He was stressed with school, I was annoyed at Bri, because she was being painful again, then we started talking about his birthday.

“Are you doing anything for it? It is your 17th so it’s a pretty exciting one.” I asked him, hoping he’d have a party.

“Don’t think so,” Lachy responded

I really wanted him to because it would be so much fun but I suppose it’s fine if he doesn’t. I know that my friends would be up for a year 11 party, although we would be the only year 10’s there. Bri would make such a big deal out of it because Jake would be going. Ever since she met him at my 16th she has been obsessed.

He chucks a pillow from my bed at me “More importantly, what about our 3rd year anniversary?”

“You’re cute,” and I peg the pillow back at him.

He catches it, “Don’t underestimate my basketball skills Savannah!” Suddenly he gives me a cheeky grin, “Don’t worry, I already have something planned!”

At that moment I spot the dark colouring circling his eyes, he looks exhausted. “Have you been getting much sleep?” Lachy wipes his eyes. “I have been working late shifts.” I give him a confused look. “Saving up for that car.” Suddenly I remember that conversation we had about his parents refusing to pay for the car he wanted. That was because they had recently bought a new beach house and even though they could afford to pay for his car they didn’t want to. They don’t want their children to be dependent on their money. Fair enough.

I wander over to my bed and sit next to him and cheer. “Yay! Soon my boyfriend can drive me places! You don’t understand how jealous Bri will be.”

“Oh, how is Bri? Still obsessed with Jake?” he pushes the light brown hair away from his eyes.  It contrasted nicely with the rest of the dark wavy hair he had, and the colour matched his eyes.

I brush my hand threw it, “Your hair is lighter.” He nods, “Spending too much time in the sun.” He chuffs. “I’m enjoying my new beach house.” I immediately think back to his birthday. “You should have your party there!” He turns and looks at me. I’m guessing he really doesn’t want to have a party.

We lapsed into quite an awkward silence, which was weird because usually we never run out of things to talk about. He points out the mess on my desk.

‘Yeah...I’ve got quite a lot of this French homework to do..” I said, hoping he’d get the hint.

“Sure I’ll see you tomorrow,” said Lachy as he gives me a kiss and a long, loving hug. He was very cosy.  As he is walking out, he quickly turns around, “Oh, I forgot, I didn’t realise Seb and Hailey were friends. How do they know each other?”

“They’ve known each other since they were young – family friends.” I reply.

He looks confused. “Oh, I didn’t know. I saw them at a café together.”

“Which one?”

He leans against my door, “Kaffiene the one where we use to hang out – between our schools.”

I didn’t realise Hailey and Seb were good enough friends to hang out like that. “I’ll ask her tomorrow about Seb. Bye Darling.”

“Love you Savannah!”

“Haha you too.” I then return to my homework.
