A few weeks passed and as time went, with every passing day, I found myself closer and closer to Derrick. Rachel freaked when she found out, but Haley and Jackson seemed happy for me. Cameron, on the other hand, avoided me for a bit for obvious reasons. I felt bad but I knew he needed time. I just hoped he'd still be my friend. However, on another topic of interactions with people, I still never saw Mason at school, but I'd see him anywhere else, and that fact was still very unsettling. No matter though, I did my best to ignore it and for the most part, the weeks that passed were great.

Thinking over recent events, I sent Rachel a text to see if she wanted to hang out. After a few messages back and forth, we agreed to meet at Aron's house later tonight for a movie night, since she was already spending the day with him. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. She'd spent most days with him and any chance she got she was always with him. In a sense, I could understand as I wanted to spend as much time with Derrick as possible but it was strange not hanging out with her every day the way we used to while growing up. It made me wonder if we'd eventually drift apart after graduation, but I reminded myself there was no way that would ever happen. After our short conversation, I sat back on my bed and sighed. The days were getting shorter and nights were getting cooler as time passed and got further into fall months. I laid back, wondering how to spend the day until it was time to leave to meet up with Rachel and Aron, but nothing immediately came to mind. The first thing that came to mind was swimming but it was getting too cold to enjoy swimming anywhere outside, so that idea was shut down. I didn't feel like sitting around my house and I decided to give spending time with Derrick a break.

Come on Jacie... Think. What else can you do? Rachel's busy. Today feels like it needs to be a girls day out so no Derrick until later. Wait, I know! I thought to myself, and I grabbed my phone again, shooting Haley a quick text.

Haley was usually busy but I hoped today would be the one day she wasn't. In no time at all, I got a response and I smiled when I saw that she'd said she was free today. Talking about a game plan for the day with her was quick and simple. We decided on a day out shopping and getting pampered and when we finalized the plan, she said she'd be over soon, then I began getting ready. I went through the routine of shower, dry off, dress, and do last minute checks to make sure I had everything I'd need for the day, being my purse, wallet, and phone. When all that was done, I headed out to wait outside for her, and while I waited, I cursed myself for not yet getting a car. I was seventeen, almost eighteen, I had my license, yet I still hadn't gotten a car. I could drive my parents spare that was kept in the garage but I'd promised that I'd never use it except for emergencies and none of my friends minded carpooling and giving me rides everywhere, which I was grateful for.

It didn't take long for Haley to show up and I excitedly jumped over the car door into the passenger seat of her Mustang convertible, since the top was down. "Hey! Thanks for agreeing to hang out today." I said happily, and she smiled as she backed out of my driveway.

"Yeah, no problem girly. It's been a while," she replied sweetly.

"It really has. I'm pretty excited. Manis and pedis, and a day of shopping. Shall we include lunch?"

        "But of course. It's food."

"Perfect! Manis and pedis first?" I asked curiously.

"Sure. We'll go to my favorite place. They do a great job and they're cheap."

        "Sounds good. Lead the way."

I giggled and she nodded and took off out of the neighborhood, the engine of her car roaring to life. She turned up her music and we sang along while making small talk between songs. When we arrived at the nail salon, she put the top up on her car then we both got out and walked in. We were immediately seated after we picked out what nail colors we wanted and told them what packages we wanted to be done. I went for a full treatment as I would usually do, and the employees set to work to satisfy our girly needs to be pampered. After my manicure was done, I happily relaxed in the spa chair as I got my pedicure done, and any imagined stress or troubles melted away. Nearly two hours later, Haley and I walked out feeling refreshed and we headed from the salon to the mall. While there we went through all of our favorite stores, trying on outfit after outfit.
