she asks me
too many questions
to keep track of,
but never once
does she ask
"are you okay"~
I sigh as I drop my bag next to my desk and take a seat. My old ripped blue jeans, black shirt, headphones and sunken eyes make it impossible to at all seem happy with being here (or happy in general).
I plug my headphones in to my phone and slip it in my back pocket (underneath my shirt). Nightcore Imagine Dragons immediately starts playing, and I listen to the music as other people find their ways in the classroom.
Once the teacher has walked in, set up his instructions, and announced that we would be completing group work today, I internally smiled. My group and I had finished everything last class, so Mr. Brad would let us have free time.
However, my group still came over to me. They're friendly, but not my friends. I don't have many friends. They might think they are, though, and they haven't done anything to make me snap at them. (Okay, maybe Hazel is a friend, but I'd never admit it aloud.)
"Nico!" Hazel cooed, giving me a hug and pulling a chair to the side of my vacant desk.
"Morning." I yawn, covering my mouth as I do.
"Hey, Nico!" Piper bends down on her knees in front of my desk.
"Guess what happened yesterday." Hazel smiled with excited, yet calm, eyes.
"Hm?" I asked, permanently pulled my headphones off to listen.
She showed me her arm, and the bottom of three hearts was red.
"Last night when I was texting Frank!" she exclaims.
"Who's Frank?" I ask.
"Her true love." Piper comments.
"My soulmate." Hazel corrects.
"So you think." Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for her, but that's what I thought my first time too.
Then I lost him...
I looked up and Hazel and Piper were frowning at me. Hazel put her hand on my arm, "It's okay, Nico."
I don't respond.
All I can think is, It's not okay. I'm not okay.
"Has your last one turned red yet, Neeks?" Hazel asks, making sure she knows how to "support" me since I didn't reply to her.
I shook my head, "No, not yet."
She nods, "Well, it will soon, and you'll be the happiest guy for all of eternity!"
I chuckle at the childlike statement, "Yeah, right..."
"You will, Nico," Piper assures. "Why don't you start looking?" She winks.
I sigh.
They ask me all the questions, but not if I'm okay. I'm just okay.
"I'd rather not." I reply.
She shrugs, "Okay."
