I took two swift steps into the elevator and placed my finger on a hidden button at the side of the door.
The code... What was the code? I scrunched my eyes in deep thought. I didn't usually forget the code. Maybe I was just really tired. I finally remembered the four-digit passcode and the elevator screeched as it continued to its destination.
I hummed silently to the ever familiar sound of the elevator music; it got annoying sometimes; I begged my father to change it one day. He never had the time and it completely bugged me.
I stepped out of the elevator to find the familiar smell of roasted coffee and the buzzing of the technological gadgets. Maybe I was just hallucinating, but the air in headquarters seemed unusually cold and harsh today.
I walked aimlessly looking for my father; it was unpredictable where he could be down here. I heard a loud sneezing from a room three doors down from where I was and rushed to the room I knew my father would be.
"Hi, sweetie. How was school?" he said to me.
"Even more boring than usual. Nothing special. Anything new happening? Like new missions for you?" I said in reply and sat at one of gray chairs in his office.
"Well there's one. But it's not for me..." he said as his voice trailed off and the gold-rimmed glasses slipped from his face.
I think I should explain what exactly is going on. My name is Jenelle Mendoza. I'm 16 and the answer you all might be looking for is that my father doesn't have a normal job.
He and my mother are one of the major lead spies of the CIA, and every once in a while they would be assigned a special mission in some foreign country or whatever. I was not allowed to tell my friends; if I did my parents would lose their job, and I wouldn't want that. Their job was extremely important to them; besides I thought it was pretty cool to have to parents working for the CIA.
I am a junior CIA agent in training; and as I say so myself I'm pretty good at what I do. The CIA offered a training program to the children of the agents that worked for them. I haven't been assigned any special missions yet, but when I get older I do want to be just as good as my mother and father.
Our headquarters are deep in the bowels of downtown LA; my father has his gadget specialists train me everyday for 3 hours after school. Monday was archery, my personal favorite. Tuesday was martial arts practice; Wednesday was guns and other related items (which I found quite interesting); Thursday was my common sense and critical thinking training with my father; Friday was one on one battle practice for all of the things I learned the past week; Saturday was chemical engineering and Sunday was my day off. It was a complicated life, but I wouldn't ask for anything better.
"Wait, who's mission is it for then?" I asked him curiously.
"This one... Is for you."
He handed me a cream-colored file with words "Operation Hawkeye" stamped in clear red ink at the top. I opened the file and examined interestingly.
There was a boarding school in London, where suspicious activity had been detected by the MI4. The MI4 was like the CIA of the United Kingdom, with agents like my parents and I working for the country to prevent potential and/or terminal damage.
"A mission... For me? But I haven't completed my training yet..." I said hesitantly.
"Don't worry, you're only there to help investigate. The MI6 asked for someone strong, yet young. None of the agents at the CIA are young or old enough to complete the mission, but you are the key to helping the MI6 and the CIA complete the mission. Besides, the MI6 has informed us that they have a training program for teenagers such as yourself as well, so your training will be continued. So are you up for the task or do you plan to quit?" he eyed me carefully.
"You told me when I was younger that an agent would never give up before even starting the mission. I accept."
