Chapter 1: Loosing bets, and colorful lists

Abby's POV

"Madison, I can NOT believe you're actually going to make me do this." I said to my best friend, crossing my arms. She laughed, and hopped onto my bed, Indian Style.

"Of course I am! You lost the bet! Melissa had the baby! So Ha-Ha, and again, HA."

I hung my head, slumped my shoulders, and dramatically pretended to clear the tears out of my chocolate brown eyes. Through fake sniffles and crying sounds, I said "I know... But he's going to think I'm some sort of idiot!" She shrugged her shoulders. "You are dear!" We both giggled.

A month before, Madi and I had made a bet on how long it was going to take the pregnant woman at our church to have her baby. Madison had said that she was going to have it on the 20th of September, but I swore up and down that, without a doubt, she was going to have  it on the 18th. The other part of the bet, was that the looser would have to make a video to put on YouTube, with the help of the other girl of course, talking about why they were the perfect girl for their favorite member of the boy band, One Direction.

Guess who lost that bet.

Madison started fooling with the camera's tripod. "Would you like me to put it in front of the mirror so you can see yourself talking every now-and-then?" She said with a grin, then said, "Abby, how in the heck am I suppose to hook the camera up to the computer? This is REALLY making me frustrated!" I walked over to the computer and camera that she was crazily trying to shove wires and cords into.

"Step aside, amateur!" I smiled at here and pretended to push up an invisible pair of glasses up off my nose. She laughed, and smiled down at me with her soft brown eyes, as I leaned down over the computer. "Work your electronic tech-y nerd magic, Abbsters, while I get you your gift.

She walked over to her purse, and took out a very colorful list, then handed it to me as I swiftly plugged in all the cords. At the top of the list read the words, "Why Abby is the perfect girl for Niall Horan!" in pink and green Sharpie.

"I thought you might want a script." She winked at me, as she flung her curly brown hair off of her shoulder. "How thoughtful of you." I said to her, sarcastically. She grabbed the hairbrush off my vanity and started to brush through my blond hair. "I love playing with your hair! It's so soft and wavy... and LONG! How long did it take you to grow it out? A few more inches and it'll touch your bum!" I rolled my eyes, "Would you like to add THAT to the list too?" She gasped- "YES! I can't believe I forgot that!" She ripped the paper from my hands and scribbled something down with her blue Sharpie. I smiled at the list as she handed it back to me.

"How long have you been working on this?" I looked at her in the mirror. She smiled and looked back at my reflection, and proudly stated, "Two weeks ago!" With a big grin on her face.

It was funny how many bets I lost. I liked to think of her as the older sister I never had, even though I was older by a few months. She cared for and stuck up for me when I needed it. Also, she drove me everywhere. We were both 16, nearly 17, and I was the only one without a drivers license, and I don't like to talk about it. I didn't mind though, she always wanted to go to the same places I wanted to go too.

I actually remember when I was in the hospital with a serious asthma attack, and she spent every night with me in the hospital. Every morning she would drive down and get me some breakfast coffee from Starbucks before I woke up. We had gone so many times before together, that she memorized what I liked to get: Iced french vanilla latte, on hot days, and a Vanilla frappe, no foam, on cold days. I felt bad that I hadn't taken the time to remember hers, but she didn't mind. I never paid attention to anything, and she loved me for that.

"Alright Rapunzel-" she said, proudly looking at my hair she was through with. She twirled strands of it around in between her fingers. I sighed and pretended to look at a watch on my wrist. "Whelp! Guess it's about time for you to leave then!"

"Oh, nice try!" She protested as I giggled- "It's only 3:42! I'm spending the night to help you edit this video!" I smirked and scoffed. "Since when do you know how to edit a video?" I asked teasingly. "Well, I meant watch YOU edit the video, I'll help with the input of my opinions and the pressing of the 'Upload' button." She said turning to angle the camera. "Since when do you know where the UPLOAD button is?!" We both laughed as she shot back at me, "Your nerd is showing, Ab's!" I rolled my eyes and stood in front of the camera so she would know where to angle it.

I took a glance out of my bedroom window. The sunlight pouring in from my window touched my bedroom carpet, casting shadowed striped through my blinds. It kissed my dark brown eyes, making them bright, and alive. The light made my hair's beachy waves cast slight shadows at the sides of my face.

I took a deep breath.

"Ready?" Madi smiled at me.

I breathed out. "As I'll ever be."

She hit the red 'Record' button, and took a few steps back, with the biggest grin I had ever seen. She gave me two big thumbs up, and the red light on the camera started flashing on and off, signaling my Que. I took another big breath, and felt my heart flutter in my chest. I looked into the dark camera lens, and said in a soft voice- "Hi Niall. I'm Abby Criswell."
