Chapter 5:
Niall’s POV
“…I might have to wait, I’ll never give up. I guess it’s half timing, and the other halves luck. Wherever you are, whenever its right, you’ll come out of nowhere and into my life. I know that we can be so amazing and baby your love is going to change me, and now I can see every single possibility… Ohhhh… And someday I know that it’ll all turn out, you’ll make me work, so we can work, to work it out. I promise you kid; I’ll give so much more than I get... I just haven’t met you yet…”
Liam and I sang along to the car radio with Michele Buble as we drove down a little Brooklyn street on our way to the mall. I watched out of the foggy car window at the apartment complexes whizzing past us. The city was cold and quiet today.
“So what are you planning on saying if you see this girl?” Liam asked as the song ended.
“Abby…” I said looking down at the picture of her Liam and I had taken from the video I was holding in my slightly damp hands.
“What?” Liam asked confused grinning at the road.
“Her names Abby… Remember?” I asked. Liam smiled in response.
In the picture, Abby was smiling and looking off to the right somewhere. The way the sunlight hit her eyes made them sparkle and look like dark sparkly caramel. Liam asked me the same question again when I didn’t answer.
“Niall…?” I shook my head, waking myself up from a series of day dreams. “Sorry, I uh… I don’t really know. What should I say?”
Liam looked shocked. “Niall speechless? Well this is new, I’ll say.” I laughed and looked out the window again.
Two girls were walking on the sidewalk, one with dark brown hair, and the other with long blond hair. I squinted and narrowed my eyes as we passed them slowly. Just as we drove by, the girl with the blond hair looked up from her shoes and met my eyes.
She did a double take on me with my face pressed up against the glass like a fool, and when I met her eyes, my own eyes widened in pure shock and excitement.
“LIAM!” I yelled at the dash, “STOP THE CAR!”
The way I pictured this happening in my head went like this: Liam slammed on the brakes and I jumped out of the car and ran up to Abby. “Niall!” She gasped as I scooped her up into my arms and spun her around…
This is how it actually went.
Liam looked confused, and instead of slamming on his brakes, he slowly slid up to the curb. We exchanged looks.
“What?!” He shouted spastically at me as I fiddled with my seat belt.
“It’s her! It’s Abby! Get out of the car! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!”
“Niall, you’re starting to sound like the fans!” Liam calmly unbuckled his seat belt and got out. “Here we go, Romeo.”
I followed Liam out of the car, and into the crisp September air. Abby had stopped walking, and she was looking straight ahead at me in a way that made me feel two inches tall. I smiled the best my nervous self could manage and waved. An unbelieving smile spread across her face as I walked with Liam towards her. My palms and cheeks felt so hot, you would think I had just gotten done running a marathon. I shoved my hands in my pockets and smiled as I got closer to her. The inside of my nose hurt from the cold air I was taking deep breaths of. As we got closer to her and her friend, my heart competed with my mind in a game of “Who can race faster?”
She smiled sweetly up at me.
“Hi, Love.” Were the first two words out of my mouth.
She was blushing probably as much as I was, and she narrowed her eyes, and smiled. “So... You saw my video?”
I smiled down at her and laughed nervously. “Yeah, that was real cute.” This made her blush more and she looked down. Her friend nudged her in the side.
“Aren’t you going to introduce, me and me yourself Abbsters?”
Abby smiled at the ground. “Um, well I think they already know pretty much everything about me…” I smiled, and turned to her friend, “True, but, we don’t know this Lass’s name…” I held out my hand to shake hers, “… and who might you be?”
She smiled confidently, and shook my hand. “My name’s Madison and I am the best friend/ Soul founder of this little moment in destiny.” She flashed a wink at Abby, “…You’ll thank me one day.”
"Nice to meet you..." I couldn't tear my eyes away from Abby, she was absolutely beautiful. Seeing her right in front of me, breathing, blinking, and blushing, was much better than staring at a still picture of her. I could reach out and touch her soft September chilled skin now. I wanted nothing more now than to wrap her up in my arms forever. She was really cute, the way she tugged at the bottom of her shirt and grinded the ball of her shoe into the ground. She was about two or three inches shorter than me, and she would probably have to stand on her tip-toes to kiss me.
"So, where were you girls headed?" I asked, mainly directed to Abby. She smiled sweetly up at me, "To the mall actually." I smiled back. "We were too, actually. But we were going to look for you." She blushed and smiled down at the ground again.
Madison was obviously bored with how slow everything was going. "Hey-" She interrupted, "-There’s this REALLY cute little coffee house me and Abbsters always go to, it’s just a few blocks away. Want to go?" Abby sighed happily. "Ah, yes. Good old Brooklyn books and drinks." Madison and Liam exchanged smug looks and started walking and talking about the cold weather, leaving me and Abby to follow behind them.
Abby rolled her eyes and grinned. "They're obviously trying to get us alone. How awkward." This made me laugh.
I wasn't exactly sure how to get the ball rolling with her, so I just jumped at the first idea that popped into my head.
I put my arm around her shoulder and smiled. "Shall we go along with the plan then?"
Smiling still, she let me pull her closer to my side and whispered, "Sure, it couldn’t hurt too much to let them think they're the smartest matchmakers in the world."
