Chapter 6:

Abby's POV

As we walked into the little coffee house, the strong aroma of coffee beans, vanilla, and musty yellowed book pages filled my nose. I breathed it in deeply, remembering the first time me and Madi met here. Then another thought crossed my mind.

Huh. I guess Niall Horan walking with his arm around my waste into my most favorite place on earth would be a pretty good memory too. Defiantly one for the books.

Madi had been carrying on a conversation with Liam about what Texas was like, as he had never met a full blooded Texas bred lady before. Shortly after Liam lost interest in her ex-boyfriend stories, they began debating on which season was better. Madi loved summer, and even in the middle of autumn, she had the tan to prove it.

I kept catching Niall staring at me out of the corner of my eye. God, he was so gorgeous. His blue eyes searched the book shelves and awkwardly patterned chairs until the coffee counter caught his eyes. He smiled down at me- “So what are you going to order?” I scanned the neon marker written across black menus. “I’m not sure, my usual I guess. Caramel Macchiato, easy foam. What about you?”  He squinted his eyes. “Coffee. I think…” I giggled, “Maybe you should get some hot chocolate.” He nodded in agreement and ordered for me and him.

We took our drinks and sat down at a table for two next to the frosty window with Madi and Liam sitting behind us. I took a sip of my drink with the steam rising from the dark brown contents of the white mug. I watched Niall from across the table and smiled happily as he drained his Hot Chocolate. Outside a few girls who looked about 13 or 14 snapped a picture of us with their cell phones and waved. Niall smirked and waved back at them, probably making their lives.

I found myself sitting in silence and watching the leafs fall around the fenced trees.

"I love the number 36..." I said absentmindedly.

Niall raised his eyebrow and sat his empty cup down. "Why?”

"It's the atomic number for the element Krypton on the Periodic Table." I said still looking out the window blankly. I looked back at Niall, who was shaking his head and smiling. He looked up smugly and said, "Nerd."

I shrugged my shoulders and took another sip of my coffee. "So-" I started, "Would you call this a date? Or not."  He smiled, "That depends."

"On what?" I asked taking another sip.

"Do you like me?" He asked narrowing his eyes onto mine.

I looked down into my coffee, then back into his blue eyes. "No." The smile fell from his face, "What?"

I laid my head on my outstretched arm on the table and laughed, "I'm kidding! I'm kidding!" I propped my head on my other hand and left my other on the table. "I do like you. Isn't it obvious? I made a video and everything."

The smiled reappeared and he laughed, then propped his head on his other hand too, still smiling and watching my eyes.

I smiled back, "What?"

He played with my fingers on the table, which made the heat in my cheeks rise.

"Nothing..." He said still playing with my hand, "You just have amazingly beautiful eyes."

Yup, there it was. My cheeks were way red, I could feel it. I bit my lip and smiled, "Thanks."

We sat and smiled at each other for a few seconds, until Madi and Liam walked up to our table. "Hey guys," Liam started, "What are we gonna do today?" Madi threw her hands up spastically, "There's so much time for activities!" I laughed, "Well, I don't really care, what did you have in mind?" Madi pondered for a moment, leaning over the table. "What about if we went to see a movie?" I shook my head. "Too Cliché." Everyone nodded in agreement and thought some more. "Maybe if we just drove around town for a few minutes, something will come to mind." Liam said, nodding to his car outside across the street.
