"georgie" and "dead" were the only two words i could comprehend from her whole sentence.
my mother had called me downstairs for a talk. she was perched on her piano bench in her nightgown. a man heard a scream- "sounded like a little boy, likely georgie," he told the police. and then the police told my mom. and now, me.
aside from the scream, he said there was blood mixed into the rainwater. of course it was hard to tell, but definitely believeable.
"georgie" and "dead."
the only two words that i hoped would never be used together.
yet here they are. harsh, but true.
i hadn't even noticed the waterfalls streaming down my cheeks until i started back up the stairs.
