The next morning, I awoke in my father's arms. I sat up and his blue eyes flickered opened.
"Good morning Dad," I whispered. He looked at me lovingly. I stared into his ocean eyes that were identical to my own.
"Good morning my Rosie," he said. Then I remembered the reality. Today we arrived in the Capitol. So I could be sent to my death. "Ready for breakfast my girl?" I nodded and we both stood up.
"Should I change?" I asked, looking at my silk nightgown. He shook his head and we headed off to breakfast. I saw ZuZu, sitting in a chair. Today she had dyed her long wavy hair crimson. Her makeup was all the same color. She was applying a thick coat of lipstick to her lips that looked surgically altered. Devlin, Haymitch, and my mom were already at the table eating.
"Come on," said my dad. We walked over the the table and joined them. Scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, pancakes, waffles, sausage, oatmeal, and all kinds of juices and beverages filled the table. The last time I had pancakes was when my mother prepared them for breakfast when I was little. ZuZu walked over to us.
"Go on now, have whatever you like," ZuZu piped in her odd Capitol accent. And I did. I piled my plate high with all this foreign food. I enjoyed every minute of indulging myself full of the wondrous morsels.
"Oh yay! We are finally here!" announced ZuZu. She stared at me and gestured for me to come over. Then I saw it. It was humongous and gorgeous. Despite its beauty, I hated it. My parents walked over.
"It hasn't changed at all, huh Katniss?" my dad said.
"Sadly no," she said. When we entered the train station, I saw hundreds of thousands of Capitol citizens, screaming just to get a glimpse at the tributes.
"Devlin come look!," I exclaimed. He hadn't looked up from his plate of food. Then Haymitch walked out. He plopped down at the table and helped himself to a plate of eggs and ham.
"Whats with all the ruckus?" Haymitch grumbled.
"We are here now," Peeta replied.
"Well isn't that swell," Haymitch said sarcastically, swirling his fork in his eggs.
"Honey, wave so you can get sponsors," my mom said to Devlin. Knowing he wasn't to rebel, he stood up and looked at all the adoring fans. I saw the smallest bit of pride in his eyes.
"They love us Devlin," I told him.
"Yeah I know," he said. We both began to wave and the crowd screamed even louder. People with tattooed faces, with pink hair, golden eyelashes, rainbow colored wigs, and even dogs dyed candy pink. The only dogs we had back home were the labor dogs but they were ugly and for work purposes only. Then the train pulled to a halt.
"Okay, we must go get you guys into prep, so let's go," my mother said.
"Don't forget to smile and wave, especially you Devlin," my father said, pointing at Devlin. We nodded in agreement. The doors to the large silver train slided open. Capitol citizens screamed my name, as if I were some kind of celebrity. I waved and smiled fakely. I then continued the walk, dreading what was next. I was quite a tomboy and now some silly Capitol citizens were going to make me into something I certainly was not.
