The Weight of Words

There's always that one topic that a few people feel that's never talked about
For me it was weight gain
I could turn on the TV and see dozens of weight loss videos or commercials to drop the pounds
But a product to put some on?
Never
I used to get comments all the time about my body and how people were worried

Skinny mini
Slim Jim
Scarily thin
That's what I heard from everyone
As if I was a new student with these names written on a "hello my name is" sticker

Hello my name is confident
I look in the mirror and I love my body
I'm happy with what I see even if I am having one of those days
I've worked hard getting to a reflection I enjoy
I've gone through multiple weight gain journeys to stand in front of a mirror and see a body I feel comfortable showing off
And let me tell you, I've tried my share of nasty protein shakes to get here

Hello name is hungry
Yes I do eat
A lot actually
I can eat just about everything
I could eat right now
Yes I eat full meals
And you wouldn't believe the amount of snacks I eat throughout the day

Oh and by the way
No I'm not 12
I know I'm 5'1 and 120 pounds but I've got a personality that weighs tons

Newsflash, you can't blow on me and watch me fall down
I've actually got a decently dependable balance

You can't poke me and move me yards away
You're liable to lose a finger like that

Here's another newsflash
In the 48 pounds I've gained in this journey,
I've gained confidence
Comfort
And pride
In my own body

Of course this weight gain has come with some things that may not be so positive
Like a few unwanted DM's
And the constant want to gain more to fill out a little more

But I will not become your joke
You will not tell me "I'm skinny to be a black girl"
I'm not too small for my age

But what I can tell you is that I am gaining more than weight each day

And soon my happiness will be more than any weight I could ever gain
And you'll see how weightless your jokes really are
