Behind bars

Toni's POV: 

The whole ride to the police station, my only worry was being taken away from Cheryl. Breaking my promise. But I had to do this. It was the right thing to do. Nick almost killed me. and he raped my girlfriend. and he threatened to hurt her again. I couldn't just sit back and let all of that continue to keep happening in the future. Once we got the the station, I immediately asked to use a phone. They agreed, and I called Cheryl right away.

"Hello?" Cheryl's voice said from the other line. 

"Cheryl. I needed to hear your voice. I just want you to know I'm okay." I said to her.

"Toni where the hell are you? You killed Nick? That was your plan? We're standing over his dead body right as we speak." Cheryl said. 

"I had to do it, Cheryl. I needed you to be safe. For good." I replied.

"Jug and the other serpents didn't kill Archie! So why did you have to resort to that?" Cheryl said, sounding upset.

"Baby I'm sorry I just thought it would help you. You know, be a long term solution." I replied.

"Toni, where are you?" She asked, sounding serious. 

"I'm... being processed right now." I said.

"Being processed? As in you're in jail right now?" Cheryl asked.

"Yeah... turns out there was a security camera in the shed and shit." 

"Why are you acting like this is all okay? You said you were okay but you aren't!" Cheryl said, upset. 

"It will be okay, I promise." I said. 

"Okay, you really need to stop making promises you can't keep." Cheryl said. I could hear her sigh on the other line before she continued. "We are gonna get you out. Don't worry. I love you." she said to me, causing me to smile a little. "I love you too, Bombshell." 

With that, I hung up the phone and let the cops process me. 

Cheryl's POV: 

When Toni hung the phone up, I turned to Jughead. "What are we gonna do? We can't let her stay in that place." I said sadly. "Don't worry I have a plan." Jug replied. "Oh, great. Another serpent with a plan." I said as I rolled my eyes. "lets just... hear him out." Betty added as she gestured for him to continue. "Okay well, we go to the police station. We tell them everything Nick did and that she was using self defense. She can show her scar to prove that. We can tell them she was protecting  you." Jug said. "I guess that's worth a try." Veronica said. I just let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Alright, lets go then." 

With that, we got in my car and drove to the police station. When we got there, the four of us ran into the building to find Sheriff Keller, but to our surprise we were met with another serpent with longish hair and blue eyes. "Joaquin?" Jug questioned, causing me to look surprised. "That's Kevin's boyfriend?" I asked. Jug just ignored my question and looked at Joaquin, "Why are you here? Are you getting arrested?" Jug asked. "No, I was just being questioned." he replied, seeming distracted. "For what?" Jug asked. "Well.." Joaquin began but before he could continue, Kevin's dad, Sheriff Keller, came out of the questioning room crying. I instantly went up to him. "Sheriff Keller? Are you okay?" I asked. "No. Kevin... he's dead." he replied, barely being able to get that last word out. I just stared at him in shock, not knowing what to say or feel. "W-what?" I asked confused. That's when Veronica and the others came running over, overhearing what he had said. "Kevin is dead?! Wha-- how?!" Veronica practically yelled. "Ask him." Sheriff Keller said as he gestured over to Joaquin and walked away with tears in his eyes. We all just turned to Joaquin with our arms crossed. "What the hell did you do to him?" Jug said as he stepped up to him. "Relax, Jones. It wasn't like that." He replied. "Then tell us, what was it like? Because Kevin was our best friend." I said with my arms crossed. Joaquin just sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "He took some drugs. Drugs that I supplied him with. and it killed him. He overdosed. Not only did I give him the drugs but I was with him when he died. So I'm being charged for that." he replied. "Are you even upset? Did you even care about him at all?" Veronica said with tears in her eyes. I too had tears in my eyes. "Yes, I did. I loved him." He replied as a tear managed to escape from his eye but he quickly wiped it. "We need to get to Toni. Now. I feel sick right now and I need her." I said as my voice cracked, and I wiped the tears falling from my eyes. I began to storm off and Veronica chased after me. "Cheryl, wait! What are you doing?" She asked as she walked quickly behind me. I just ignored her and began yelling, "TONI!!!! WHERE ARE YOU! I LOVE YOU AND I NEED YOU!" I yelled as I began to break down crying. Veronica pulled me into her arms and held me as I cried on her, and she too was crying but trying to stay strong for me. "We'll find a way to Toni, and I'll make sure you talk to her. Don't you worry." V whispered to me. I felt Betty and Jug put their arms around us as well. Just then, an officer came out from one of the rooms and I went up to him. "I need to see Toni Topaz! I need to see her now!" I yelled to him. "Miss Topaz is currently being charged with murder. She can't be seen right now." he replied. "No! You don't understand, it was self defense!" I yelled again. "Not according to the security camera footage... she was making out with that boy, and told him to take his shirt off. and then she pulled a knife out and stabbed him in the chest for no reason and then beat his skull in with a baseball bat. How was that in any way self defense?" the officer questioned. It hurt me a little that she was making out with him, but I know she was doing it to lure him into a trap so I got over it. "Because! Nick raped me! and then he stabbed Toni right after and she was fighting for her life in the hospital for a couple of weeks and had to walk around with a cane! He threatened to hurt me if she didn't have sex with him, just like he threatened to hurt Toni if I didn't have sex with him, which he did anyways. She was trying to protect me!" I argued. "She still killed someone. and if that boy was still alive, we'd take him in and charge him for what he has done. but he's dead now. In a few days we'll find out if the judge decides to post a bail for your friend. Till then, she's remaining in custody." He replied. "She isn't my friend she's my girlfriend and I love her! I need to see her! Please!" I cried. The officer sighed and before he could answer, Veronica stepped in. "Officer, please. Our best friend just overdosed and died and she needs to see her girlfriend." V said.
