ah, summer. the beach. the pool. fairs.
my family and i were heading out to a fair in the town over. my siblings loved to ride the rides, and i love it because of the food.
once we got there, my little sister forced me to take her on a ride, which is not what i wanted to do, but i had to.
getting off the ride, i saw our family waiting for us. and someone else too.
colby brock.
i've known colby since i was a baby. our dads are best friends. i only see colby about three times a year though. but every year he gets a little more attractive.
"hey y/n. it's so great to see you after all this time." he smiles at me.
"it's only been a year..." i question.
"that year sure has done you well." he smirks, looking me up and down.
i feel my face burning up. ever since we were little, our dads would joke about us getting together at some point.
"um thanks" i barely mumble.
"you guys should go walk around together!" my dad chimes in.
i don't want to. i mean i do, but it's a lot of pressure. what would we talk about? where would we go? what if he runs into his friends?
"sounds great" colby replies.
we start to walk around the fair, making small talk.
"come on the ferris wheel with me" he abruptly says.
"colby i don't kn-" i start as he cuts me off.
"come on! the line is short and it's so beautiful up there. it will give us some more time to talk" he convinces me.
once we get on the ferris wheel, we're so close that i can feel his body heat. i'm nervous.
"so, y/n. i don't know if you know this, but i've had a pretty big crush on you for a really long time. in fact, i always hope that you'll be with your family when i see you guys out, like today." he breaks the silence.
"oh, wow. but wait, didn't you have a girlfriend not too long ago?" i question.
"yeah, but i broke up with her because i can't get over you"
"well, if we're just putting it all out there, i've had a crush on you for a long time too." i blushed.
"our dads would be so happy right now" he laughs, which makes me laugh.
he grabs my hand. "how about we make this official?" he asks.
"i think that's a great idea." i smile back.
once we get off the ferris wheel, his friends spot him and i holding hands.
"hey hey hey colby! who's the hottie" one of them yells, looking me up and down.
"get it colby!" another yells.
"guys shut up." colby yells back. "this is y/n, we've been friends for a really long time. and now, we're kind of a thing?" colby looks at me, looking for me to approve.
i nod my head.
he smiles at me and grabs my waist. his soft lips meet mine, his warm body touching mine.
as he pulled away, he rested his forehead on mine and looked into my eyes.
"i've been waiting so long to do that" he chuckled.
"me too" i replied.
he grabbed my hand again and started walking.
"hey! this is my girl! this is my baby!" he would yell as we would pass people, making me laugh and blush all at once.
this should have happened a long time ago.
