My 4th period class went better than I thought. Mrs. Hollister, my English teacher, was excited to see me. But she also stared at the side of my face in awe. So I whispered to her what happened earlier, and she understood.
The whole classroom didn't know who I was, and mrs. Hollister happened to notice.
"Class, may I have your attention...." Mrs. Hollister said.
She continued......
"We have a new student joining us today, and her name is Merida. She came all the way from Iowa. Let's make her feel welcome here at Brooklyn High"
When she was done introducing me to the class, she asked me to take a seat In the back row. So I did as I was told.
All of sudden I heard a familiar voice. "Hay, Merida !" It whispered shouted.
I made no eye contact, because I thought it was just another kid trying to pick with me again. But then the voice got louder...
"HAY ! Merida !" It whispered shouted even louder.
I continued to ignore it. But then this person through a paper ball at me and it hit me on my arm.
"What's your problem !" I said kind of irritated
But I happened to notice it was my friend Michael. He was excited to see me.
He mouthed and motioned for me to open the balled up piece of paper he threw at me. So I did.
The note said....."hey, what happened to the side of your head ?"
So I wrote back....."I'll tell you later on at lunch." And then I threw the piece of paper back at him, he read it and whispered shouted "okay".
MEANWHILE: AT LUNCH
5th period went by fast, and lunch came sooner than I thought. My day at school was going good so far. I met a couple of other kids who introduce themselves to me. And some of them gave me compliments on my outfit. But anyways, the lunchroom served hamburgers and fries. They never gave us food like this back in Iowa. Once I got my food I continued to walk around to find a table to sit at. But all the tables were full.
"MERIDA !! OVER HERE !" Michael shouted for me to come. I made my way over to Michael's table. Then he asked me.....
"So what happened ?"
"To what ?" I replied.
"To the side of your head, you have big white band aid looking thing on it. Why?"
"Oh this, umm...my mom was driving me to school and a drunk driver was swerving this huge truck, and it was coming right at us. So my mom had to swerve the vehicle to the right and off the road to prevent us from getting killed or injured badly." I explained.
"Oooh. I'm glad your okay,....." He said with a worried look on his face.
"Thanks, but during the swerving of the car, I hit the side of my head on the hard part of the van. I had to go to the hospital to get stitches. Which is why I was late to school" I said.
But then, Scott did something very weird. He hugged me really tight. And said in a low voice...
"Merida, promise me you'll be more careful"
"I promise Michael. But dude calm down, I mean I'm living aren't i ? You act like your at my funeral." I said jokingly.
We both laughed at my witty joke. Later on at school, we had math class. And that was the last class of the day. I didn't understand math at all. So I was lucky to have Michael in the same class as me.
