The Light Within Sorrow

Chapter 1

Emma's P.O.V
It was still raining out. It had been like this for a week. I can't stay in this place much longer. I'm going to kill someone soon.
There was a knock on the door. "Who is it?" I replied startled from my thoughts.
"Emma. Can I come in?" Asked my little brother Liam.
"Come in Li." I huffed. He was only 10, yet he was more mature than most of the others in our pack.
"Emma. I'm scared." He said in a small voice.
"Come here. I know you hate the weather. I do too. All we can do is wait for it to be over." I said while hugging him.
I just wish that mom and dad didn't leave before the storm. Now they can't get back. I hope they are safe.
There was a big crash downstairs. Liam jumped in my arms and held onto my neck like I would disappear. I chuckled and kissed the top of his head. "Let's go see what made that sound." I murmered into his hair.

Adam's P.O.V
"Shit! Im so dead!" I said to myself. Emma is going to kill me for breaking that.
"Whats going on?" She asked. Shit. Too late. "Um... I... may have..." I started.
"Is that my vase?" She asked in a raised voice.
"Yeah... I'm sorry. I was making you breakfast, and I kind of bumped it." I said sheepishly.
"You broke my vase! You know I got that from..." she shouted. "Wait. Did you say you were making me breakfast?" She asked. I smiled weakly and nodded. "Awe. Thanks Adam. Thats so kind of you. But that still doesn't excuse the fact you broke my vase." She said kindly.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to do something nice for your birthday."

Emma's P.O.V
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to do something nice for your birthday." He said.
"Why than..." I stopped. My birthday? It's today?
"Um... Emma? You ok?" He asked snapping me from my thoughts.
"I completely forgot it was my birthday." I said slowly. 'And you said I'm the forgetful one' my wolf Lilly said smugly. 'Shut up. Its been hard this week. The days just blur together' I replied. She just chuckled and went to the back of my mind.
"Happy birthday Emma." Adam said bringing me back to reality.
"Thanks Adam. I guess that you are the only one who remembered." I said looking out the window. He didn't respond. I felt a pushing in my head and opened the mind-link.
'I am sure that others remembered. Besides, now you can find your mate.' Adam said.
"Adam. I don't want to find one. I just might be the only werewolf alive who doesn't want her mate." I said coldly.
"I'm sorry. I just thought you might have changed your mind by now." He said quickly. Before I could respond there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." I sighed. I walked to the door and opened it only to have a girl fall in front of me. She just collapsed on the ground in front of me.
"Adam. Come here! I need help!" I yelled to the kitchen. I heard him come running.
"What happened!" He asked me panicked. "I don't know. I just opened the door and she fell down." I said in a daze. I looked down at the girl for a brief second before seeing her body just release. I heard her heart slow and knew she was unconscious. I looked to Adam with concern etched on my face. "What do we do?" I asked him hesitantly. He just shrugged at me and shook his head. I looked at the girl on the floor in front of me. "She needs to be taken to the pack doctor." Adam was just looking at her.
"She's a rogue. Emma. We can't let her stay here. She needs to leave." He said coming back to reality. I looked at him, and the smell hit me. She was indeed a rogue.
"So what if she is a rogue. She needs help. So help me." I said agitated. He helped me pick her up and carry her to the guest room. I mind-linked the doctor and asked her to come to the house. A few minutes later and she walked in the door.
"A rogue? What happened?" She asked as she started to examine the girl.
"I was talking to Adam when there was a knock on the door. I went to answer and she just collapsed on me." I replied a little shaken up.
"She will be fine. Just hungry and tired. It appears she has been running from something." The doctor said when she was finished.
"Thank you Samantha." I said while still looking at the girl. I saw her smile before she left.
"Now we wait." I heard Adam say.
I wonder who she is? And why was she running? She appeared to be about my age. She was very pale from lack of sleep. She has black hair and was very beautiful. She had the scent of vanilla and water lilies.
"Hey. Adam, I almost forgot. It's your birthday as well." I said turning around. Adam was just staring at the girl.
Before I could ask him why I heard him whisper "mate".
"Adam. Is she your..." I started and he nodded. He looked up at me and I could see the tears in his eyes. He had found his mate, but she was a rogue, and my father, the alpha, didn't trust rogues. He hasn't allowed a single rogue to join us. I knew what Adam was thinking.
"Please.  Emma, don't let him make her leave." He started to cry into my shoulder. I hugged him and let him cry.
"Where am I?" I heard the girl say. "You're awake!" Adam exclaimed. The girl flinched at Adam's voice.
"Adam. Please. Leave the room. Let me talk to her." I said to him quietly. He looked at me before nodding and leaving.
"Where am I?" She said again with a bit of fear.
"You're in a guest room in our pack house. Who are you?" I replied.
"My name is Jessica." She said. She was still trying to disappear into the corner.
"My name is Emma. You can relax. I won't hurt you. Neither will Adam." I said softly. She relaxed a bit at my words.
"He was my..." I cut her off. "Your mate. I know. But before we discuss him, tell me why you were running." She looked at me and sighed.
"Ok, but..." the door burst open and my dad came in and stood in front of me. He growled at Jessica.
"Dad! Stop!" I yelled at him. He turned towards me and snarled at me saying "she is a rogue. She needs to die. She is a..." Smack.
I hit him hard. He looked at me surprise.
"She is a rogue. But she is not a threat. And she is not going to die. Her name is Jessica, and she is Adam's mate." I growled coldly.
"Is this true?" He asked Adam. He nodded. My dad turned back to Jessica. "I'm sorry. I didn't know. Please forgive me." He said while lowering his head. I looked back to see my mom smiling at him.
'I told him to apologize or he would be in trouble tonight' my mom linked me. I smiled and nodded my head in thanks at her. I turned back to my dad and Jessica.
"Could you guys leave so I can talk to Jessica alone please?" I asked politely. They all nodded and left.
"Sorry about my dad. He is very over protective." I said once I was sure they were gone.
"Does he always do that?" She asked me. "I mean the apologizing." I looked at her and chuckled.
"No. Only when my mom threatens him. She has him wrapped around her pinkie." I said lightly.
"Oh" was a she said. "I guess I should continue my story, hey?" She said a minute later.
"Please do. It will help me convince my father to let you stay." I replied honestly.
"Ok. Well. I will start with why I am a rogue. It all started when I was..."
