Let the best man win

"Oh my gosh, Alexandra, look over there?" My mother gasped, frantically trying to get my attention.

"Who am I looking at?" I raised an eyebrow, completely unaware.

"Don't you read Madame magazine or Le Point or L'Express, Femme Actuelle or even Paris Match" she says in a duh tone.

"No" I replied. "You don't even speak fluent French, how can you read French magazines?"

"Come on, Alexandra, be a bit more open minded. Magazines have pictures and English captions, or if all else fails, I get Alice, our French secretary, to translate it for me" she explained.

"What's the big deal about French magazines, what's wrong with English or American magazines" I asked.

"Your father has very strong associations with French politics and business in the industry, I have to know what's going on. Plus, it's instrumental in strengthening foreign relations" She clarified, my mother loved finding foreign links that she could socialise with, especially royal socialites.

"And that man over there is Sir Louis Alphonse de Bourbon, Duke of Anjou, with his eldest son" she pointed out.

"Wow" I sarcastically replied, still completely clueless.

"Every French Magazine I've read has published that his son is a bachelor who is in fact interested in the billionaire bachelorette" She had a evil grin on her face.

"Let me guess, you want me to entertain him" I raised an eyebrow.

"Sounds about right" she nodded. "He must be very interested in you, Alexandra, he's flew all the way to New York from France, just to see you at this charity ball. If that's not eager, I don't know what is"

"I thought you wanted me to marry one of the Fitzpatrick sons" I reminded her.

"Oh I do. The Fitzpatrick's have more money than French royals" she scoffed. "But it doesn't hurt to entertain a bachelor. Besides, if your marriage ends up in divorce, you'll have a backup plan, so keep your options open"

"Unbelievable" I mumbled underneath my breath, shaking my head. I wasn't naive and I knew my parents weren't exactly love birds. I knew that in some cases, monogamy wasn't natural and as long as they were doing their business, it wasn't my business and I just turned a blind eye to my dad always being on business trips with his Secretary and my mom flirting with lots of diplomats and guys in fancy suits at events.

"Plus, what would you prefer money or a title as a princess?" She asked me.

"That's quite a hard decision" I actually ponder on the idea.

"I mean your legible to be a royal, you have French blood, you speak the language and a lot of people admire you" she listed.

"I guess so" I added. "Come to think of it, if I had money I could buy myself the title"
