And that was that.
Fei Chuan more or less spent the next five months being pampered and pressured into bed, then the remaining four being pampered. The Fourth Prince's official wife gave Fei Chuan the stink eye every single day, and Fei Chuan was not wholly surprised to find himself being "accidently" pushed down the stairs two weeks before term.
Very terrible news: while the child had survived and was perfectly healthy, the mother had too much trauma and blood loss and was in critical danger. It was to no surprise that she quietly passed away.
With that, Fei Chuan cheerfully departed the world and forgot it ever existed.
Except.
Amidst the endless darkness came a notification: [World 02 ----]
"Hey, I have some questions for you."
A pause. Then: [How may I help you?]
Fei Chuan ran a hand through his hair. "What is this place? What is that?" He gestured towards the comet, which had again turned back into its original form. "What the hell am I even doing here?"
[This is the Prelude to the Eternal Sands. Here, you may review the last world. From here, you may return to the Eternal Sands or jump straight to the next world.]
Fei Chuan felt confused. "So what is the Eternal Sands for?"
[Items may be purchased with points at the Eternal Sands to aid in Tasks. Points are given for every completed task.]
....Fei Chuan did not hear anything about points.
"Current balance of 20 points," piped up the comet, as if reading his mind.
"...And what is that?"
[Your system will offer in-universe assistance for task completion. Your system will inform you of task, help you track targets, and adjust your stats. Please rely on your system in the future.]
As if. Fei Chuan had the sinking feeling his system would rather dig him a pit than be anywhere near helpful.
[Your mission: Foster the [Villain]. You have been entrusted to care for and raise the [Villain] in each Task World, so that they can help the [Protagonist] reach new heights.]
Fei Chuan frowned. This mission was rather....pit-like, wasn't it? Was Fei Chuan just supposed to raise a kid and set them up to fail? But before he could ask that, Fei Chuan had a more important question. "Why was I chosen?"
The notifications paused, before: [Missions are initiated when a person dies with deep hatred and an unresolvable grudge.]
