Song: Habits (Stay High)- Tove Lo
"Party at my house tonight, spread the word!" I yelled as I threw papers with my address printed on them down the school foyer. The halls filled with chatter as people grabbed the papers and discussed plans with others around them, and I smirked as I drifted down the hall toward my locker. As I spun the combination, Dixie came up beside me, blowing out a puff of air. "Look at them. They're so obnoxious about everything they do. I bet all they do is sleep around because she's too stupid to have a human-to-human conversation."
I glanced behind me to find Zack pressing Bailey up against his locker, basically face sucking her with no shame. Some part of me told me that he knew Dixie was watching, and it was on purpose to get a rise out of her again, because even though Bailey might not have been able to hold a conversation, Zack and Dixie were the professionals at miscommunication and a lack of communication over how they actually felt.
"Why don't you just go over there and kiss the socks off of him?" I turned back to my locker, grabbed my books for class, and then closed it. I faced Dixie. "That'll show her."
"The dickhead hasn't spoken to me in two weeks," She muttered, her shoulder resting against the locker as she watched them. "The only thing he deserves from me is a kick in the nuts."
"Well, maybe you'll have your opportunity tonight at my party."
She humorlessly chuckled. "Looking forward to it."
Dixie left for class, and as she rounded the corner of the hallway, Zack and Bailey broke apart for air. She flirtatiously waved at him before sauntering down the hallway. As he turned around and spotted me, I raised my eyebrows at him. He walked over, sighing as he glanced down the other end of the hall where Dixie had been last.
"You're not as subtle as you try to be, pal," I patted his shoulder.
He rolled his eyes as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Not like it would change anything."
"Hey, it's takes two to tango. You're just as capable of manning up and being honest with yourself and her."
He rested his head against the locker beside me. "At this point I think she'd rather dance on my grave than hear a word I have to say."
Landon walked up behind him and raised his eyebrows at me. I shrugged, and he got the message that it was the usual Zack and Dixie drama. He patted Zack's shoulder. "Looks like you're having an internal crisis, bro."
"Nope," Zack sighed. "Just another day where Dixie's pissed at me."
Zack banged his head off the locker once more before walking off toward his class. Landon laughed under his breath and then leaned against the locker beside me, a small smile gracing his lips. I faced him, resting my shoulder against my locker. Landon had taken a week off school to recoup after his hospital stay. He was looking much better than the last time I saw him. "Are you feeling better?"
"Much better. Remind me to never drink again."
I laughed. "Noted. Are you going to stop by my place tonight?"
"I'll try. What are you gonna do if Aleck is there, though?
"I don't think he'll be coming around," I sighed, shaking my head as I thought about the last time I had seen him. "He made it very clear he wants nothing to do with me."
"Well, don't worry too much about it. Breakups are hard," Landon rubbed my arm, and I smiled at him. But when I looked over his shoulder, I found Aleck watching us, his eyes hard yet unreadable, specifically set on Landon's hand on my arm.
