chapter 2: what is this thing?

After looking around himself and wondering what to do for a few minutes, Julian decided he was going to investigate further. He carefully ducked underneath the small, round entrance to the pod and crouched next to the limp-looking creature. It had a slender body and small nubs on the top of it's head, it's skin was a darkened-white colour and it wore what appeared to be a spacesuit. Julian stared wide-eyed but as he began to notice a patch of blood seeping through the creatures spacesuit his expression changed rapidly. Without thinking, he slid his hands underneath the creatures body and lifted it up, to Julian's surprise, it was actually quite light. Julian began making his way back to the apartment building, it was harder going up the stairs while trying not to be seen, but, he managed to reach his room door without anyone seeing him.

He fiddled with his keys and pushed the door open by turning and backing into it. Julian decided to lay the creature on his couch for the night; so that's what he did. The room was filled with silence except for a faint tick-tock of the clock in the background. Julian rubbed his eyes and glanced up at the clock, 4:54 AM. Julian was surprised by the time, he didn't think it was that late, so he grabbed a blanket that was hung over the back of the couch and laid the blanket over the creature. After studying it a little more, Julian left the creature on the couch, pushed his bedroom door open and flopped onto his bed. His eyelids grew heavy and he found himself falling asleep; falling asleep to the sound of stars outside his window. The creature on Julian's couch had already fallen asleep to the sound of stars, the sound of decreasing stars that surrounded the disappearing night sky.

Startled, Julian woke up to the sound of a loud yell that smashed through the thin walls between the main room and his bedroom like it was nothing but air. He sat up and rushed into the room where the noise came from and immediately spotted the creature clutching it's side where Julian had seen the patch of blood. He didn't know what to do, the creature could hurt him if he went too close, a million thoughts rushed through his mind. Julian said to himself, "Screw it."

The creature only slightly opened it's eyes but quickly opened them fully when it saw Julian. It pushed itself up against the back of the couch as much as it could but as Julian saw this he began reassuring the creature and telling it he wasn't going to hurt it. It still looked a bit scared but had moderatly calmed down. "Can I see it?" Julian inquired. The creature looked down, like it was deciding wether or not to trust Julian, it began to tentatively take it's hands off of it's hidden wound.
