The Start of it All

The revolution took its toll on the people and androids all over the world. Although humans have finally recognized the complicated AI that took shape over the years, the issue still remained.

Humans were still suffering greatly. And their hatred only grew over time.

Cyberlife didn't last much longer afterwards either. It's very foundation crumbled and the stock market also collapsed. The manufacture factories and main buildings all over the world was taken over by androids, making it their new base of operations to help other androids who are still stuck in their dilemma and provide blue blood to keep running.

Its been nearly 2 years since the initial revolution. During those 2 years, you worked hard to achieve where you are at. A detective at the Detroit Police Department at only the age of 24. Quite the achievement but never have you ever bragged of it. Even though you worked your ass off for your position, you're also very aware that not many receive such opportunities in life.

It was 3 in the afternoon, you just brewed yourself a cup of coffee, and decided to rest against the windowsill. Rain was washing away outside and as you closed your eyes, you listened carefully to the pitter patters of the rain hitting against the window and ground.

Just as you were about to sip on your coffee, your phone buzzed. Worried it might be from work despite it being your day off, you checked only to see it was your boyfriend.

Alex.

You had a lot of mixed feelings regarding to this relationship. Being together for nearly 3 years, you felt content in the relationship, but as of late, you discovered his potential cheating. There were a bunch of messages with random girls you had no clue who they were, but the flirting was as clear as day. And Alex only reciprocated to these messages.

You never confronted him about it nor did you dug any deeper. But you did grow distant from him. Why haven't you left him? You ask yourself this many times since that day, but you knew deep down why. You're afraid of letting him go. Being alone...again.

Sighing, you opened your phone to see what he messaged you about.

"Are you free?"

Staring for only a brief moment before sighing again.

"Not sure, the department might call me in today. There's been a surge of cases coming in for the past week."

It wasn't a lie. Ever since the revolution, cases between androids and humans only rose even more. But this past week was even more intense.

"Aww, I really wanted to see that new movie that came out this week. I was hoping we could catch it tonight."

"Sorry, maybe another time?"

"It's okay, I know you're a busy girl but at least you're doing something good for the people."

You smiled at the message only to frown shortly after. You hated how you felt about him but you still couldn't help but melt at the softness of it all.

"Thanks hun, I'll catch you later.

You didn't look at the message he sent afterwards. Tired, you closed your eyes again, trying to tune out everything but the rain. Once again, before you could even take a sip of your coffee that's gone cold now, a knock at your door caused you to prevent you from drinking.

You sighed again for the second time today, this time louder.

Once you arrived at your door, you look through the peeping glass to see Connor. Sighing for the third time of today, you opened the door, greeting Connor with a tired look.

"Ya know, I just wanted to drink my coffee in peace."

"I'm sorry detective (l/n) for disturbing you. But duty calls, we can get you a new coffee on the way there," Connor gives you an apologetic smile.

He still didn't get rid of his Cyberlife jacket.

"Alright alright, let me get my jacket and umbrella. Hank is in the car?" You asked as you walked back into your house, grabbing your necessities while you're at it.

"Yes."

"And what are we working on?"

"At 5 AM this morning, an AP400 was found murdered at Highland Park," Connor responds immediately.

"At a park? Damn, talk about a morning," you joked and at the corner of your eye, you saw Connor crack a smile.

"Let's get going before Lieutenant starts complaining," Connor recomposes himself.

"Haha, alright, let's get going."
