Chapter 1- Trivia Night

Valentina walks into her dorm room with light steps and a smile on her face. Brenda is sitting on her twin sized bed, leg crossed, her fiery red hair fixed in a messy bun and her blue eyes hidden behind hideous glasses. She looks up from her gray laptop and scowls when her eyes fall on the green scarf Valentina is hugging so tightly.

Valentina halts and shifts her weight uncomfortably. Brenda narrows her eyes and if it was possible, her expression turns into one of even more disdain. Valentina looks away at the long shared desk were her books and laptop sit. She drops the scarf on her bed and walks up to her desk, grabbing a notebook from the wall mounted wooden cube organizer.

"Please tell me you didn't sneak into Hugo's room again?"

Valentina winces and looks down her hands fiddling with the longs sleeves of her pink sweater. What a nice baby pink. The way it complements the dark colored jeans is adorable. The combat boots just give it the magic touch.

"Valentina!"

Keeping her gaze on her hands and allowing her straight dark honey hair to create a curtain between her and her judgmental roommate, Valentina throws some books and her laptop in her black backpack. Brenda's groan makes her clench and unclench her fists and turn to look at her.

"Uh. No?" Valentina brushes a lock of her long hair behind her ear. A gesture she does often whenever she's nervous.

"Val!" Brenda removes her glasses and massages her temples. A gesture she does often whenever she's with Valentina.

"I didn't sneak into his room. Mateo opened the door for me."

"I can't believe you befriended his roommate just to get into his room. That's like a whole new level of stalk--"

Valentina sprints across the tiny room and lands knee first on Brenda's mattress, covering Brenda's mouth with one hand and moving her other hand to her own lips. "Do not use the S word."

Brenda nods and Valentina lets go from her, standing up from the bed and fixing her hair and clothes. She sighs and smiles. "Well, Imma go to the library now. I've got a project due next Thursday and really need to get working on that."

"That's in like six days. Don't you have anything else to do?"

"Already done it."

"You make biomedical engineering sound so easy."

"I'm just that awesome."

"Pfft. That you are. I don't get why you waste your time sta--"

"Do not use the S word!"

Brenda puts her hands up in mocking surrender but keeps her smug smile. "Why do you like him so much?"

"Now you ask?"

"You've always been a little bit... odd, so I didn't mind too much at the beginning. But, now, you're befriending his roommate and stealing his clothes."

"It's not--whatever." Valentina twirls around and plops onto her bed, curling around the stolen scarf and smiling. When Brenda clears her throat, she sits up with a dazed smile on her face. "Twenty-seven days ago, I got wasted at a frat party. Don't judge me. It was my first time drinking. Some dude kept trying to touch me and kiss me, but Hugo saved me. He even left the party early and walked me to the dorm and my room. He's such a gentleman. When we arrived here, we talked for hours and even kissed a couple of times until I fell asleep. Those were my first kisses! The next day I woke up with a glass of water and ibuprofen by my bed."
