A/N: Song for the chapter is a house song from my home called 'Tender Love' by Sha Sha. It's a quite sweet song with beautiful lyrics, I hope you enjoy it if house is your vibe.
••••I curse the fact that I listened to my heart and my friends and decided to come here.
I was dreading each step I took as I entered the stadium, at least this one being different than the Lions' home stadium. Despite my doubts and internal arguments, after agreeing to come, I still had to somewhat force myself to come here, with Mamello and Danielle as support. Nthabileng sent me a loving message as since she couldn't come, and I was grateful for it, but my heart beating so hard that I felt like it was between my ears (a weird feeling, I know).
Coincidentally, Banele and her boyfriend had also showed up purely to watch the game, but they were seated too far from us to join in on any drama (should any unfold). Tonight we were in the suite owned by my father's company, a good distance from where I spotted the Hamsteads in another suite, but also quite close to the trophy presentation area for the victors.
I wrung my hands as the South African anthem played throughout the stadium, finding no spirit in singing along, as my body and mind were completely racked by nerves. Mamello squeezed my shoulder in comfort and I sent her a reassuring smile before turning back to the field as the referee blew for kick-off, and just as I started to relax, my eyes spotted him on the field as he tackles one of the players before they reach the try poles.
That old sense of pride starts creeping in, but I push it back, not forgetting my intentions of being here. I wasn't the supportive girlfriend, but rather a girl on a mission. As the game reaches half-time, the Johannesburg Lions were down by a small margin, and as time crept by, I resisted the urge to run and tell him everything whilst he was still in the locker rooms but I knew that would not help anyone.
"Oh my sack", gasps Danielle. "What?", the rest of us ask in unison. "Based off of the pictures we saw on Facebook, I think I just spotted Jesse's ex-girlfriend two suites down from us". We all looked to our left and indeed spotted Kimberly with what looked like a friend of hers, along with Jesse's family. "Damn, she does look like a runway model in real life", Mamello says.
"You two are not helping with the situation", Danielle scolds, and I simply roll my eyes at the mention of Kim, before turning to field as the two teams re-entered for the next half of the game.
The game had twenty minutes remaining, and the Lions had not only caught up, but they were leading by two tries. I held onto the seat tightly as I watched the grown men tackle each other for the ball, nearly giving myself a heart attack when I saw him get horribly knocked down by a high tackle from the opposition.
"Hey Sedi, are you sure you're okay?", Danielle asks worried. I nod my head slowly and focus on him on the field, making the conclusion in my mind that I wasn't ready to give up on what we had, and that by ending things, I was living by fear and lack of self-confidence.
Clearly there was some (actually, many) things that caused him and Kimberly to break up, and for him to go for someone like me. Then again, who was I to judge? I had completely zoned out that I didn't notice the crowd going wild, until I saw a small speck of a man in a black and gold jersey running to the try lines, scoring a try.
They were actually going to win this.
