Heidi's POV

Heidi hid the box behind her back as she slowly opened Evan's bedroom door down the hall with her free hand and peeked in.

Her little guy was lying on his bed, pointing at the glow-stars on the ceiling while counting out loud.

"One, two... Three, four, five..."

Upon hearing the creak of the door opening, Evan sat up in bed immediately.

"Hi, Momma!" Evan chirped cheerfully.

Heidi smiled to herself. Lowering her voice to a whisper, she said, "Momma's got a surprise for you!"

Evan's eyes widened and he squinted at his mother, trying to see what she hid behind her back.

Grinning widely, she brandished the box and placed on it his bed, setting her chin on her hands.

"It's the comic book collection you always wanted!"

Evan's eyes lit up and he hugged his mother. "Thank you!!!"

Evan immediately took out one of the books and started reading. After a few minutes, he started to yawn and rub his eyes.

"Time to go to sleep now, little guy." Evan sleepily mumbled a reply as Heidi lovingly tucked him into his bed and switched on the ninja turtle nightlights and Evan had requested months ago.

She remembered the way Evan had eagerly made his way to the ninja turtle nightlights in the store, before pointing to them and exclaiming:

"Can I have them, Momma? They will keep the bad guys of the dark far away!" she had agreed. She smiled now at the memory.

Heidi softly began to sing a lullaby.

"Go to sleep my little guy...

Drift off and close your eyes...

When you wake up, it'll be a brand new day...

And the skies will no longer be gray."

[A/n yes i made this by myself was it passable]

Heidi slowly repeated the lilting tune and Evan eyes shut slowly. As she stopped singing, she half expected Evan to mumble "Continue" but she heard no sound. Heidi got to her feet, ruffled her son's blond hair and sighed, before opening the door and letting herself out, making sure to close the door softly. [A/n Yeah I know Evan has brown hair]

Evan's POV:

Little Evan slept fitfully as always. Although he was young, barely eight, he would suffer from panic attacks and was always nervous and restless, unless around his loving Momma. His dad had not returned from his "work trip" yet, but Heidi always said he would soon. However, Evan always suspected in the back of his head that that wasn't the whole story.

This time, he heard the door close and his eyes popped open immediately. He sat up in bed and noted the absence of Heidi. Instantly his palms turned clammy. Padding his way to the bedroom door, he softly opened it and looked out, only to see a flash of his mother's blonde hair slip around the main door with a working bag, before it closed.

Evan stared solemnly straight ahead and tears started to form at the corner of his eyes.

Connor's POV:

Connor lay with his little sister, Zoe, on the grass as they watched the world pass by. Connor's wavy dark brown curls, which reached to his neck, framed his face as he soaked up the sunset. Their parents were both at work and Connor and Zoe had sneaked out of the house to the nearby orchard-again.

Connor frowned. He did not like to think of his parents. They never cared about what Connor was doing, whether it was wrong or right. They didn't even say anything when he threw that printer at the teacher last week! He knew that at least his mother was trying, but gave up long ago as Connor would always chase her off with that dark look that seemed to be permanent unless he was at the orchard, where he would relax.

Connor then got up and pulled Zoe to her feet.

"C'mon Zo, I'm bringing you somewhere cool!"

Connor grabbed Zoe's wrist and set off at a fast pace. Little Connor had a sparkle in his bluish-brown eyes and so did Little Zoe as she eagerly let Connor lead her to anywhere in the orchard.

Connor stopped and Zoe looked around, wowed by the sight.

It was beautiful.

The area was filled with knee-length grass that shimmered a bright yellow in the fading sunset. Colourful flowers popped up at random points on the canvas of yellow, dotting it with blue, purple, red and whites. The dying, darkening sun cast a momentary glow on each radiant flower.

Connor bent down and plucked a solitary, bright white daisy from among the grass, before playfully tucking it into Zoe's braided hair.

"An innocent daisy for my Zoe," he said and he ruffled his sister's hair.

Zoe grinned happily and hugged her brother. Connor hugged back for a while, before grabbing Zoe's hand and leading her back home.

{Time Skip}

Zoe peacefully lay on her brother's lap, snoring gently as Connor absent-mindedly fingered the pure white flower in his sister's dark hair. He stared out of the living room window, watching little lights slowly glow and blur up. His little eyes started to close as he dropped off to sleep on the sofa too.
