Becky's P.O.V

I was looking into Niall’s gorgeous blue eyes, and listening to him talk, his accent making my heart race –when, all of a sudden, Melissa came running in, her hands covering her face. She ran straight past our table, and into the toilets. Harry came running in after her. He stopped at our table.

“Harry, what’s happening?” Zayn asked.

“How could I be so stupid? A photographer caught us together...” He muttered, biting his lip.

My friends and I exchanged worried glances.

“I’ll go,” I said, standing up.

In the toilets, I heard quiet sobs coming from one of the cubicles.

“Melissa, are you okay?” I said, pushing open each cubicle door until one of them revealed my friend, sitting there with her face in her hands. She lifted her head, and I saw that her cheeks were damp with tears, and her eyes were red. She gave me a long, sad look.

“What’s wrong?”

She rose, walked past me, and stood by the sinks. “Harry asked me out.” She said at last.

“Wow! That’s amazing!” I gasped. But then I looked at her, confused. “So, why are you crying?”

“I’m crying because a stupid photographer caught everything.” She wiped her eyes. “And now...” She took a deep breath. “Now, people are going to hate me. I haven’t done anything wrong...”

“People aren’t going to hate you!” I exclaimed. “You’re a lovely person!”

Melissa turned to face me. “Caroline Flack. Remember her? People were sending her death threats, and I’m sure she’s a lovely person too.”

I sighed. “Melissa, the people who send others death threats are just jealous. They’re not worth the tears...”

Melissa looked at the floor, sadly. “I really, really like Harry. But if people hate me for it...” She trailed away.

“True Directioners would feel happy for Harry; and if anybody gets you down, you just need to remember that you’re the better person.” I told her. “This is about you and Harry. Two people liking each other. Don’t let anybody, not even the haters who have nothing better to do with their time than send people they’ve never met death threats, come between that.” I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed her tight.

“Thanks, Becky.” Melissa smiled gratefully. “Anyway, enough about me... How are things going with you and Niall?”

I blushed. “He’s so amazing! I thought I knew what he was like, but in person he’s a million times better!”

“Do you think he likes you?” Melissa asked.

“I don’t know... I hope so. I made him laugh a few times. But there’s his friend... Victoria.”

Melissa put her hands on my shoulders. “Becky, he said that Victoria was just a friend.”

“I know, I know... but what if they’re more than friends?”

“I’m sure Niall wouldn’t lie. If he said they’re just friends, then they’re just friends.”

This time is was my turn to be grateful. “I guess you’re right. Thanks, Melissa.”

“Wow, this is great. Imagine if everyone got together? Me and Harry, you and Niall, Rosie and Liam, Holly and Zayn, and Kirsten and Louis.”

“Yeah, that would be great.”

We left the toilets, and sat back down at the table. Harry put his arm round Melissa. “Are you okay?” He asked her.

She nodded and smiled. “Yeah, all thanks to Becky.”

Everyone had finished their food. It was suddenly dawning on me that this may be the last time we ever saw the boys... well, of course we’d see Harry. But what if I never saw Niall again?

As if reading my thoughts, Niall suddenly said, “We’re definitely all going to see each other again, aren’t we?”

I grinned. “Yeah, of course! We should do this more often.”

Everyone agreed.

“So, er, what are you doing tomorrow?” Niall turned to face me.

“I think I’m free.” I smiled, my heart racing.

“Well... do you want to go to the cinema? Just us two?”

I was about to answer, when Kirsten said to everyone, “I’ve got my camera, mind if we take a few pictures?”

And everyone instantly started smiling and laughing and joking about, while Kirsten’s camera clicked away.

I desperately wanted to say yes to Niall, but he’d forgotten about it; he put his arm around Victoria’s shoulder and grinned cheekily for the camera. I tried not to look, jealousy spreading all over my body.

Instead, I watched as Kirsten pointed her camera towards Zayn and Holly. They both smiled, but just as Kirsten pressed the button, Zayn turned and kissed Holly on the cheek. I’d never seen Holly smile so wide.

Kirsten then went to take a picture of Liam and Rosie. Liam put his arm around Rosie’s shoulder and squeezed her tight. The camera clicked.

I stood up. “Here, Kirsten, let me take one of you and Louis...” I offered. Louis grabbed Kirsten and pulled her onto his lap. They both smiled happily, and again, the camera clicked. I gave the camera back to Kirsten.

I watched Kirsten take a picture of Harry and Melissa, and tried not to feel too unhappy - everyone had a picture of them with a boy, apart from me.

“Hey, Becky? Can we have a picture together?” Niall tapped my shoulder. Sadness flooded out of my body and was replaced with happiness. Niall moved closer and smiled. His smile was so perfect.

A little while later, Kirsten put her camera away. “What’s the time?” She asked.

I looked at my watch. “Wow, it’s nearly 8. We’ve been here for hours!”

“Well, time flies when you’re having fun.” Harry grinned.

“We’d better go.” I sighed, even though I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay here forever, us and the boys.

“We’ll walk you home!” Louis suggested.

“Really? Are you sure you don’t mind?” Kirsten said. Louis nodded.

“Yeah, of course not! So are you all staying at Kirsten’s tonight?”

“Yeah,” we said in unison, and got ready to leave.

Two minutes later we were walking along the pavement, all ten of us – Me, Kirsten, Holly, Melissa, Rosie, Niall, Louis, Zayn, Harry, and Liam. Victoria had said goodbye, as she lived in an opposite direction. Now I had Niall all to myself. He grabbed my hand, and held it tight as we walked and talked.

We were walking along when all of a sudden, a group of five or six men appeared from round the corner and started walking towards us. They all had their hoods up, and they looked angry.

One of them headed straight for Harry, and grabbed his neck.

And my perfect happiness was gone.
