Liam’s P.O.V.

Niall and I had gone over to Harry and Louis’ place for a movie night- but Zayn was nowhere to be seen. The film was complicated and kind of boring. Instead of wasting my time paying attention to it, I watched Louis, who was texting someone. Kirsten, I guess. I could tell he really liked her, because she was all he talked about on the way back to our apartment block. And now, he was texting so quickly, all we could hear was ‘tap, tap, tap’, as his fingers hit the shiny surface of his iPhone.

I turned to watch Niall. He was shoving popcorn into his mouth as if his life depended on it, eyes fixed on the telly.

And as for Harry, he was in another world – he wasn’t watching the film, but he wasn’t talking or texting or eating either. He was thinking about something. His eyes were on the wall at the side of the room. He looked like he was in a dream.

“Harry? Harry, are you okay?” I nudged him, and he came out of his dream. “You’re just kind of... staring at the wall. Not doing anything.”

Harry laughed nervously. “No, I’m watching the film, honestly.”

“Really? Or are you thinking about someone?” I grinned. “Like... Melissa?”

“Shut up.” Harry hit me playfully. Suddenly, the door opened, and in walked Zayn, his grin wide.

“What are you smiling about?” I asked.

“Oh, nothing.” Zayn winked.

“It’s ‘cause he’s been with Holly. ‘Cause he luuurves her.” Harry joked.

“Shut up!” Zayn said. “I don’t love her! I just like her, okay? She’s a friend.”

“We’re your friends, and you don’t take us on romantic walks.” Harry grinned.

Zayn ignored us, heading into the kitchen and getting a glass of water.

I jabbed Louis with my elbow. “Hey!” He yelled, but went straight back to texting. I didn’t try to bother him again.

Instead I turned to Niall. “Hey Nialler. So, you and Becky, eh?”

Niall looked at me, nodded - mouth full of popcorn - and went back to watching the film.

I’d never been so bored in my life.

Was it too soon to text Rosie? We’d all exchanged numbers before we said goodbye. I had all the girls in my contact list... but should I text her? Would it make me seem desperate?

Yes, I thought, but so what. I pulled out my phone and started tapping away.

“Hey. How are you? x” I put, before putting my phone down on my lap and twiddling my thumbs, waiting. It buzzed in a matter of seconds.

“Hi, I’m good thanks. And you? xx” was her reply.

We had a good text conversation. It was only when I saw the reflection in the screen of my phone, did I realise that Zayn was sat behind the sofa, leaning over and watching what I was doing.

“Zayn! You idiot! What are you doing?!” Quickly, I put the phone away in my pocket.

“You love her,” Zayn joked. “You absolutely flipping luuurve her. Do me a favour and ask her out already?”

“Shut up, Zayn.” I muttered.

“Listen, Liam. You know it’s gonna happen, I know it’s gonna happen – we all know it’s gonna happen. It’s obvious, isn’t it? You haven’t kept your eyes off her all evening.”

“I don’t know...”

“Just do it! What have you got to lose?”

I knew deep down, that Zayn was right. I had nothing to lose, but everything to gain. I was just scared.

“You’re scared, aren’t you?” Zayn whispered, as if reading my mind.

“I’m scared she’ll say no.” I admitted.

“Listen, Liam.” Zayn said quietly, so only I could hear. “She won’t say no. She really likes you, I can tell. And who would say no to you? An idiot, that’s who. You’re amazing! I mean seriously, sometimes I would go gay for you.”

I laughed. He was only joking of course, but it still made me feel one hundred times better.

“Okay, I’ll do it. I’ll ask her out.” I said.

“Wahey!” Zayn cheered.

“But what should I say?”

“I think you should call her.” Zayn began. “And start the phonecall with these two words: Vas Happenin.”

“Great idea.” I laughed.

I knew that whatever happened, I’d always have Zayn by my side. And that thought made me smile.
