Niall’s P.O.V.
I sat on my sofa, staring at the TV screen, even though the telly was off. I looked at my reflection in the screen and saw that my eyes were all red, and tears glistened on my cheeks. I looked away, not bearing to look at myself. I hated being sad. I wished Rosie would get better so that we could all stop being so miserable.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I stood up, wiped my eyes with the back of my hand, and went to answer the door. Becky stood there, looking sad and scared, but still managing to look beautiful.
“I thought you weren’t in the mood.” I said bluntly, as she walked past me and sat down on the sofa. I went to sit next to her.
“I need to talk to you, Niall.” She began. “I need you to read this letter.” With a shaking hand, she handed me a crumpled piece of paper. I opened it up, and read what was written on it.
Each word made me sadder and sadder. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I tried to stay strong, but before I could stop them, tears tumbled down my cheeks.
“My best friend is moving away? And all because of me!” I whispered, putting my head in my hands.
“And there’s something else.” Becky said quietly. “I don’t think we should be together.”
“What?” I gasped.
“Because... because Victoria loves you!” Becky cried.
Shaking, I took her hand. “But Becky, I love you. Please, don’t do this...”
Becky stayed silent. She looked away, biting her lip.
“Becky... I really can’t believe this letter. I had no idea how Victoria felt about me. But, I can’t believe more, that you’re thinking of breaking up with me because of it. I love you, and you love me, and even if Victoria loves me too, well... I don’t love her. If you broke up with me, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’d go out with her. She’s just my best friend, nothing more.”
Becky didn’t say a word. She just sat there, tears streaming down her face... It broke my heart to see her crying.
“You’re right.” She muttered quietly, and then turned to face me. “Niall, I love you. I’m so sorry... I was an idiot, I was putting other people’s feelings before my own...”
“Which is the right thing to do, but not always.” I told her.
She nodded in agreement. I put my arms around her, hugging her tight.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated. I pulled it out, and saw that Liam was calling.
“Niall! Niall! I have brilliant news!” He practically shouted down the phone.
“What is it?”
“The hospital just phoned me, and... Rosie has made an extremely quick recovery! She’s coming home tomorrow!”
“Seriously?” I asked, a grin spreading across my face.
“Yeah! Apparently, something made her want to wake up and get up. They said that when we left, she sat up, and tried to get out of her bed, saying my name, over and over! They asked her how she was doing, and she said, ‘Perfect, Liam loves me!’ Which was true... I do love her! She’ll be back to normal by tomorrow! I’m so happy!”
Liam was rambling on and on, but I didn’t mind. Rosie was getting better, and I had my beautiful girlfriend sat right by my side... things couldn’t get better.
But then I remembered Victoria, and how she was moving away, and my smile faded.
I was going to miss her.
