Pleiades's PoVPleiades sat, silently waiting for Hemlock to return, possibly with Velocity behind him. She had never thought that Velocity, one of the most cheerful dragons Pleiades had ever known, would have such a sad backstory. I guess we all have our own family problems. Velocity's were dead, Hemlock's didn't like him, and my mother was tortured into insanity. Who knows what happened to my father. Though, Pleiades had a feeling that she didn't want to know.
"Look at her, just sitting there like she owns the place..." Pleiades heard Basilisk whisper behind her. "Hmph, typical Sunwing..." Rattler muttered back.
"Thinking she's the best of everyone here..."
"Yah, stupid Sunwing..."
"Probably thinks she's the smartest too..."
"Yah. They think they're so smart with their science-y stuff..."
"Yah, well, hate to break it to you Nowings, but nobody cares about your dumb science..."
"Haha, Nowings. Nice one Basilisk. Nowings. That's a better name then Sunwings..."
"'Hi! I'm a Nowing and I'm super smart and stuff. Listen to me ramble about everything useless and boring!'"
"And if you make us mad we'll stick you in our torture chamber and you can live in our escape proof dungeon prison the rest of your life! Yay!"
"Hey, but that's right after we cut off an arm and a leg..."
"Oh yah, they love to do that, don't they. Nasty dragons, those Nowings."
"I don't know a single dragon who would want to be friends with a Nowing, except for that Hemlock dragon and Velocity."
"Fools they are.."
"I know right. The only dragons who like Nowings are Nowings themselves. Terrible dragons..."
Pleiades mind suddenly flashed back to the time when she first met Hemlock. He had said the same thing: nobody likes Sunwings except for Sunwings themselves. She spun around and faced the two Viperwings, a bitter look on her face. They both had very smug faces and had obviously been trying to provoke her. Now, she could tell they they were happy they had succeeded. "Say that one more time." She growled, the spikes on her back rising into the air.
"Ok, nobody likes Nowings except Nowings themselves. Terrible-" Basilisk started but Pleiades interrupted him,"SHUT. YOUR. MOUTH." She snarled, using all of her strength to not leap at them. Rattled turned to Basilisk, his face smug as ever.
"Did that Nowing just tell us to shut our mouths in our own kingdom? Who does she think she is?" He said is false surprise. "I. Am. Not. A. NOWING!" Basilisk shrugged,"maybe we can think of a nicer name hmmm..."
"Nastywing!" Suggested Rattler.
"Grosswing!" Said Basilisk.
"Meanwing!"
"Bossywing!"
"Ooh ooh I know. Torturewing." Rattler said darkly. "Maybe, Killerwing. Or possibly leaning little bit more to Murderwing." Basilisk hissed, her eyes darkening and smile fading. "You can't blame what my Queen did to your family on me." Pleiades hissed back, completely aware of the way her claws were ripping giant holes in the ground.
"We can blame whoever we want, Murderwing. And to us, all Murderwings are guilty and deserve to be punished for all that they did and do." Basilisk said quietly. Along with her anger, Pleiades felt especially unnerved. And her spines weren't only pricking from her want to swipe at them.
Basilisk walked towards her on only two legs, causing her to stand a head taller then her,"you and your entire tribe will pay for the pain that you have caused so many other dragons." She growled quietly. Just when Pleiades was about to attack, unable to contain her anger much longer, a pattering of feet and a thump behind them told her that Hemlock and Velocity had arrived.
"What's happening!?" Velocity yelled as she rushed towards Basilisk and Rattler and began to push them away from Pleiades while Hemlock attempted to push her away from them. Though her anger slowly began to ebb away, it was replaced bitter sadness. The type of sadness that stung her when she realized how terrible her family, how terrible her home, and how terrible her tribe was. It was the type of sadness she felt when she realized that Sunwings deserved every bad title they earned. The type of sadness when she realized how bad of a dragon she was herself. She wasn't proud to be a Sunwing. She had no reason to be because how such horrible dragons they are.
Having been lost in her own thoughts, she missed was Hemlock had been saying to her, but didn't bother to ask. Instead, she followed Velocity as she led them further into The Golden City and to her cousins' house. Velocity had also said that more of her family was at their house, and it made Pleiades even less enthusiastic to go. If the rest of her family hated Sunwings just like Basilisk and Rattler, she was in for a real treat.
Velocity led them to a huge building that was bejewled with rubies and other sparkly stones. This building also looked as if it were made of gold, and windows in the side by the dark wooden door showed her that it was the same for the inside too.
Rattler walked to the front of the group and opened the door for them all, and right when it opened, they were greeted by cheers of welcome. Velocity's family, all except her parents, burst from the door and hugged her in a giant family embrace.
In the hug, there were about ten dragons, and Hemlock explained that Viperwings stayed together with their families their entire lives. Once the hug broke apart, Velocity was beaming when she returned to them. "Velocity, are these your friends?" A tiny dragonet chirped as he bounced up to them. Though he frowned and became teary eyed when he looked at Pleiades, he soon hopped away, looked as bright as ever.
She turned towards Velocity, who wore a helpless expression, shrugged, and then rejoined her family. And soon enough, they were all invited to come inside the house to rest.
With one last look at the beautiful golden city, Pleiades trudged inside Velocity's cousin's home, not expecting to enjoy any bit of the Sunwing hating family.
